First shot is 45 min away and I'm getting very nervous ...breath breath.
I know I don't want to get dasher nervous so I need to calm down. Please any advice or encouragement needed.

Breathing is excellent.. Some people sing to calm themselves and the kitty. Could you put down a snack so he would be busy eating while you give him the shot? The good news is that most cats don't feel it, especially with their face deep into breakfast. It's a tiny needles and a tiny amount of insulin. If you are relaxed and not worried, he most likely won't be either.

It's done !!!!! He knew something was up tried to escape but that's because of how we were acting. Now that the first one is over things will be fine tonight, it was so easy :-)

It sounds like you have an open vet. That's really good. I didn't see what kind of insulin (look at the bottle) Dasher was put on or the dosage (units). Including that info helps us help you.

If he has a favorite treat you can give him that while you are doing his shot. My kitty LOVED her treats, so she came running when she heard me getting out the testing/shot supplies because she knew she was going to get a treat. It is amazing how quickly a kitty learns the noises and routine of treat time and it made it much more bearable for me as well that she seemed to enjoy that time.

Good job on your first shot!

Great job on the first shot, they get easier for here on out. :thumbup :YMHUG: Okay this sounds silly but it does work, because cat's talk with body language to each other so they read us like open books. So if you are in a happy place Dasher will be in a happy place. I sing to mine, yeah nuts I know but they each have their own little song that I made up for them. Take my Autumn for example...Her song goes like this:

Oh she's my pretty little fluffy butt
That thinks she's a tough as a nut
But I know just how to make her crack
when I get her tasty snack
But what a price she must pay
just a little prick as she lays
on my lap and purrs at me
until a number on the meter I see.

Its silly, it makes me laugh so it makes her happy too. And now she knows the moment she hears the opening line that its time for a test and her treat.

At shot time, she is now so use to them and understands that they make her feel better, plus I give them while she is whiskers deep in her food dish, she doesn't even look up anymore.

GREAT JOB Robin!!!!! That first time is SUPER scary...isn't it amazing how the horrors we imagine beforehand are so wrong?

HUGS AND BIG DANCE!!

NIce work, Robin! Before you know it, you'll be able to do it in your sleep. Dasher will figure out it's good for him and mamabean is only there to help. Woo!
