Getting labwork done

I'm thinking of taking Priss in to the vet to get another bloodwork lab done, in the past we only got this done when she was in ketosis so I'd like to know if everything is normal otherwise. However I called a vet or two in the area, and none will give me the cost over the phone. They said I have to come in and pay for an exam before they can let me know how much it will cost for a checkup with blood panel. We would get it done at the hospital, but it is much more there, and in the past the internist said they would review lab results from elsewhere during a visit. Is this usual procedure, not to give estimates over the phone?

My vet will give me an estimate on costs for any procedure they do including bloodwork over the phone, but then again I have used them for years and on multiple animals. In fact bloodwork is the easiest to get costs for since it is a set price for them as they send most of it out to the lab at the local human hospital here in town.

Tell the vet place that you pay with cash so if they don't give you an estimate, a range, then you can't bring the money to pay for a visit and bloodwork.
Ridiculous ... there is no reason why a vet office can't tell you how much a vet visit costs; they know. And for a general panel or senior panel, whatever you want done, they know how much it costs and what you will be charged.
If this office is one you've been to before, ask to talk to the vet.
I do understand that there would be a charge for a visit and a blood draw, but if you are not having your pet examined, then I see no need for a checkup.

I agree, they should be able to give you the cost of a vet visit and blood work. However, there are different "blood works" that can be done and the cost depends upon what is being measured.
