Getting control of weight

Now that Dashers numbers are good I really need to get control of his weight as well as his litter mates weight.
Since Dasher was diagnosed he's only lost .3oz and his brother .01 oz. I'm thinking of reducing their food intakeas I really want to take control of this as this is what get us into this situation in the first place.
They eat about a 1/3 of a can each six times a day and that's only 180 calories so 2 cans each of Fancy Feast. I feed them more meals because I believe Dasher does better with more for frequent small meals.

Any advise would be appreciated .

Short version - be careful and go slowly. Maybe pull out a level 0.5 to 1.0 teaspoons from each meal. Have a digital scale to weigh the cats at least weekly.

And check with you vet as to what each cat's ideal weight is.

Slow and steady is the best way when you want your cat to lose weight. It took a year for my civie (civilian, non-diabetic) cat Monet to lose 4.5 pounds. I think it's easier for a cat to lose weight once they are eating canned food as opposed to dry. The wet food fills them up better and is less calorie dense too.

You might want to try adding a bit of water to each serving of your kitties food. Think applesauce consistency. That will help them feel fuller.

It's still a struggle for my Monet to keep his weight down, so managing his weight means I need to do meal feeding AND keep him out of the other 2 cats food. No food down all the time for the kitties to eat, because Monet would eat it all and get overweight again quickly. He actually has a noticeable waist now!

Truly, it can mean a minor adjustment in the amount of food that you feed. Sometimes just that 1/2 teaspoon or teaspoon less can make all the difference.

Yes, several smaller meals a day can help a lot. My kitties get 4 meals a day because that is what works best with my life schedule.
