Based on his past doses, I'd say 1u should be fine. I'd be very tempted to keep him at 1u for a few days as 1.5 seems to be too much and he's starting back into the yo-yo effect. But that's just me.

Who know's with this guy Teresa?! :? I'm definitely interested to see how the 1 unit plays out!

Just got off the phone with the lab doctor from my cat clinic, she said George's urine checks out fine post-UTI, has some sugars but that's to be expected with his diabetes; said to bring him back in a month to check on his weight - as she's the lab doctor I asked about his previous blood work and his thyroid checking out fine and the fact that his numbers are better but he's not holding weight and she says she really thinks he'll start gaining weight back soon as his numbers do look so much better - I hope she's right!

One of two things could be happening...

Either he gets a quick onset which pushes his numbers down into the greens, then bounces back up by +4.
Or, he's getting an onset later than +4, so you don't see a drop until after that.

a third option, but I don't think this is the case - He gets little to no "action" from a dose of .5 or 1u. But I can't see how 1u would do nothing, and 1.5 would do so much more.

Wish I'd tested at +2 now to see which of those possibilities it might have been. Will check again in a little bit to see if he's dropped any at +6.

LOL, they should come with a little digital readout on their foreheads that says "My BG is ....". It's always that test that you don't get that ends up being the one you want to know about! But, we can't turn them into pin cushions either. All data is good.

I like that read out idea, let's get on that haha  I hear you on the pin cushion thing, his poor little ears are so marked up

Do you use some Neosporin on his ears and sure hold the ear for a few seconds after poking? That is supposed to help with scabbing and bruising.

I also use the neosporin with a pain meds in it. IT really does seem to help. Warm up his ear a bit too. I used a fleece babydoll sock and filled with rice. Eat in micro for 12sec. It does wonders on ears. Only barely have to poke and doesn't leave a mark. Try the 30guage pokers too make it a bit smaller hole and hurts less.

Good luck!

PMPS 273 - Fed 3/4 of 5.5oz can of BFF Tuna & Salmon - 1.25 units insulin

It isn't so much that he bruises, just poke marks where it's a little red. I use cotton balls and rub the edge of his ear for a little bit before I poke, then I apply pressure with the cotton ball to stop any additional bleeding. He doesn't seem to mind I just feel bad. I'll try the neosporin but I don't know if he'll let me do it haha.
