Hello beautiful cat parents! How do you all handle necessary trips away from your kitties? I have a 6 day trip next week that I can’t reschedule. Thankfully, I have solid caregivers lined up, but there won’t be any testing while I’m away. I’m tempted to switch to half doses while I’m gone (.5u x 2 instead of 1u x 2), just to be on the safe side. What would you all recommend?

I suggest posting and asking for a pet sitter dose a couple days before you leave. We would suggest a reduced dose, and being on the line is always easier for the pet sitter. But let’s see where Edward’s dose is closer to departure date. Things could change. It’s also a good idea to leave a sample syringe, filled with coloured liquid, to show the dose. Been a couple cases of 5 instead of .5 given. :(

@Wendy&Neko colored liquid in a sample syringe is a great idea! I am meeting my evening sitter (professional, highly recommended, has diabetic cats of her own) this coming Friday, which is exactly 2 days before I leave. My morning sitter is my dad, who is a natural at the injections. I’m just always thinking ahead! It’s hard to have a naturally anxiety-prone temperament (I’m talking about myself, LOL) and handle this disease with equanimity. My brain is going nonstop about what-ifs and contingencies...

You are in fine company here! I’d be worried if you weren’t a bit anxious about injecting insulin, though with time and data it becomes easier.

Maybe post Thursday about a pet sitter dose so you can show the sitter.
