Gastro Issues with Fancy Feast?

Hi. After everyone's great advice on here after my cat was diagnosed with FD, I started him on Fancy Feast canned food. He's done great for the most part, but on occasion, he gets terrible gas and tonight I noticed he left some super smelly pellets of poo on his pillow and as he was cleaning himself in another area of the house. I think it *might* be related to just the FF Chicken pate flavor, but I'm not 100% on that. Is it normal for some flavors to affect them and others not? I'm still waiting on his inhaler for his asthma so some of it might be related to coughing, but I don't think all of it is. Any advice? Is this normal in a newly diagnosed cat? I can call the vet tomorrow as well. Thanks!

He's on Lantus, 1 unit, 2x/day. I don't have a spreadsheet yet, but the curves at the vet were all in the 200 range so she kept him on that dosage.

Funny you should ask this. I use FF too and normally use the salmon and chicken flavors. I recently switched it up to beef & chicken and all of a sudden one of my cats had horrible diarrhea. There was no other change in his life besides this switch of food so I attributed it to that. Within four or five days he was back to pooping normally. Based on this, I'd say yes, some flavors affect them differently than others.

I don’t use Fancy Feast but with the food I do use, Howie was on turkey and his litter deposits absolutely reeked—like I’m sleeping upstairs and know exactly when he goes to the bathroom downstairs as it was so noxious! I switched him to pork food and it’s been much better. So I would experiment with other meat. Turkey and chicken can really negatively affect some cats.

Yes, we've had the same issue! Our cat seems to do well on the turkey+giblets, and most of the seafood pate options. But we can for sure tell that some don't sit well with him. He's gotten much better now that we quit giving him chicken.
