What a marvelous digital world we live in. My vet called me this evening with the radiologist's report from today's ultrasound. They emailed the pictures somewhere.
They did not see anything which has not been noted on prior US's. His liver was enlarged, but it always has been on US and though they noted changes, there were no masses. Again thickening of the small bowel was noted, but vet made a very good point. He has presented with that for quite a while now on US's and if it was something like lymphoma he would have had symptoms such as weight loss well before now. So we are going with assumption the bloody stool was colitis from an IBD flare or stress. She asked about stress and I laughed, 'cause what we consider stressful is not the same for a cat. The only thing I could think of is Tigget & Leahpold fighting which happens pretty much every day. Sometimes Gandalf isn't bothered by it, other times he will get up and go over to see what's going on. But he's never been a cat which stresses easily, except when going to the vet.
As for course of action, we are going to put him on metronidazole, which he's been on before. Pamela, I would like to discuss with you sam-E products again as I know we've had this discussion previously. My biggest problem is finding a good time to give him the pill and remember to give the dang thing because it needs to be like an hour before food. Since I feed after shot, I am programmed for shot-time, not an hour before as pill-time! I can probably do it in the evenings. SID stuff I usually like to do in AM, but I can't get up early enough to get a pill in an hour before shot.
The vet told me how good Gandalf was for the ultrasound, for which he had to be laid on his back. They have a fluffy padded cradle for that and she said he didn't even growl! It is dark in the room though, so she thinks that helps calm them. It is also done in a closed room where no sound gets in.
This is one of those times I love my vet clinic!
