Yesterday at +3 he had a 30 so I lowered to 1U from 1.1U last night and today at +3 after lowering his dose from 1U to .9U this AM, he had 40. He will probably need another reduction tonight and I will try .8 I guess.
I have been a little lax on updating his spreadsheet, so upon updating it just a few minutes ago, I realized it's pretty obvious I should not have gone back to 1.1U, especially after all the greens he was having on 1U and the bounce he had on the AM of 24th after 1.1U AND especially after the 86 he had at +9 on the AM of the 19th after going almost 36 hours between shots since I was out of town the 17th through till almost midnight of the 18th.
I increased to 1.1U on the PM of the 28th because that was the day after the split dosing. he usually has a rise about then, so tried to combat that but it was also after a +10.5 shot that AM, so there was a shed build there.
All this adds up to not being real sure where he should be at because there have been other earlier shots, like +11.5 ones. He's bouncing a little too much, so I'm even contemplating .75U tonight. I have to work tomorrow, then Wed. have to go out of town after his acupuncture appt., so I loose my opportunity for more testing after today.
What am I doing differently for him? Well, since his liver shows up lighter than normal for most cats on ultrasound I decided to give him Denamarin supplements, which are a combo of Sam-E and milk thistle. As we know, the liver and pancreas are intertwined when it comes to their part in regulating the endocrine system, so any support I give the liver might also help his regulation of blood glucose. While I don't know if Denamarin would help other diabetic cats, those long term diabetics who show liver changes might benefit.
It's probably too early to tell. Sheila's nagged at me a time or two that it looks to her like he needs less insulin, so maybe I am finally seeing the light. It's so hard to tell because he does not have a regular shot schedule like he should to achieve long lasting regulation.
