Not sure what's up with that. 345 for AMPS, which had to be a split dose, second was 324. Even higher last night at +14/+12 368. I'm still at 1.25U. That surely is not enough of a dose increase to cause this.

He's much better today 7/10 with +10 at 217. I just hope he's not 300+ for AMPS. He can do +100 in those last 2 hours of cycle.

Well, that is certainly not fun seeing a 345 PS first thing in the morning. Hope he stayed down there in the 200's for you for tonight's shot. How is he doing? Still acting like he is cold?

Tigger is acting very grumpy at the two visiting kittens. Doesn't seem to be affecting his numbers too bad. Staying with the 4.25 units. He knows by now though that they aren't here to stay and just tolerates them for the three days. But they are so lively and fun to watch - at least I think so. :)

Darn. Where do those numbers come from? It's like they appear out of thin air and then vanish again. Could it be shot placement? Or a "fur" shot? I never really worry about those at this point, but sometimes Jeddie wiggles at the last second and I wonder if it all got where it was supposed to go.

Pamela, I can just imagine how Tigger is reacting to the kittens. Beau was a wreak when I got the two girls (two years ago this week, actually). I thought I made a huge mistake, but he settled down after a week or so. He acted like he was terrified of them. It was really weird.

Yeah, Gandalf will move sometimes, especially if I don't make him sit down. It's easier to see if I got the needle in with him shaved, but I always wonder too. A half shot would mess his numbers up for a couple cycles.

He was a little below 300 this morning at AMPS and tonight he was 288, which I will take although it's high, not as high as 368!

Yes, he's still laying in his baskets and being a wuss. He laid on the deck in the shade this morning and it was fairly warm. Like I said, he does not like to lie in the sun.

I wonder if it could be the needle length that is causing the inconsistencies, although we know there are a number of obvious challenges to getting Gandalf some regularity. I have mentioned this before that the shorts didn't do well for Tigger but it seems that most here prefer them I guess because of the .5 unit markings.

Anyway, the 'new' guidelines that Deb (Pippin) just posted written by quite a few renown vets (Richard Nelson and Debra Zoran among others) says that they prefer the long versus the short needle.

"Do not use "short" needles. A standard 29-g, half-inch length needle is recommended."

I had WAY more fur shots/through and through with the half inch needles than I do the shorts. I won't go back.

Yes it's possible the needle isn't long enough to get the insulin where it needs to be. But they don't offer an explanation for why they recommend the 1/2," do they?

No, they don't. I wish they had too. I am just assuming it is an absorption issue.
