So we are now hanging out on the Levemir board.

I am happy to report that he's much less bouncy/divey on the Levemir. Thank god!

Wow, he gets some nice numbers. I am thinking of taking Samwise in to the vet and get him started on Levemir. I'm not pleases with Lantus at all. Plus I am almost out of insulin. He has enough for quite a while but I am down below 2/3 of a vial. Good luck with your Pumbaa! :-D

Sue: I am simply amazed at how much flatter Pumbaa's numbers are now, on the Levemir. He's only been on it for one week so far, but there is no comparison to how Pumbaa reacted to the Lantus (bouncing and diving from the get-go) to how he's reacting to the Levemir.

There are no guarantees that bouncy Samwise will react the same way, but, since you have to purchase new insulin soon anyway, do you really have anything to lose by switching him?

I waited until I was on my last Lantus pen to talk to my vet about switching. Unfortunately, my vet was not willing to prescribe the Levemir since she had never prescribed it before, so I found a new vet who was willing to prescribe Levemir for the first time, after he did some research, and due to the fact that he knew that I home test Pumbaa regularly. I'm him test case for prescribing Levemir for diabetic cats, and I have no problem with that. :)

Good luck to you and Samwise. Let me know what you decide!

Sue,

I will second the switch for Sammy over to Levemir...I really like the way Autumn is responding to it as well..I've tried Lantus on 3 cats so far now and the only one it seemed to work well for was Maxwell and I honestly think he would have gone OTJ on diet alone. For a long term diabetic lev just seems to be a better choice.

Yep, I'd like to try it. I think I will call the vet and ask her first what she thinks of it after looking at Sams spread sheet. I do believe he may do well on it. He does bounce A LOT!

Sue, you might also want to show your vet Pumbaa's SS, since he has really calmed down on the Levemir. Good luck!
