Fussycat Grainfree dry food (Aus)

Hi everyone,

I've been seeing the following brand at our local supermarkets here in Sydney:

I wasn't thinking of giving my sugar cat any kind of dry food, however I do have another cat who is 3 years old. As a preventative to diabetes, do you think it's a good idea to switch her over to something like this? Or perhaps scrap dry food altogether and start giving the non diabetic one canned food as well...

What does everyone think of this brand?

Scrap the dry food completely. Even a little dry food can send a diabetic cat's blood glucose levels high. For the non-diabetic cat, a dry food-free diet is best. You can feed both cats the same low carb canned fod. Have you seen Dr. Lisa's web site Catinfo.org? There is a list of reasons there why dry food can cause all sorts of health problems besides diabetes.

Grain free is not synonymous with carb free, or even low carb for that matter. All dry foods need some kind of ingredient to hold it together, usually in the form of starch, ie potato starch, which can still be high in carbs. I can't find the ingredients anywhere (red flag to me) so I can't say much else.

Also dry food is not good for any cat, low carb or not. It is extremely moisture depleted, and the meat sources tend to be heat treated & overprocessed to prevent deadly bacterial growth. Like mentioned, it can cause other health problems like kidney disease, diabetes, cystitis/UTIs/crystals, IBD, hairballs, and so on. Catinfo.org is a great resource for diet info. Low carb canned for both is definitely the best option. My diabetic and civvie get the same food, so I don't have to worry about one eating the others' food (and they do that a LOT)
