I am so upset at myself, I gave a major fur shot this morning, think I didn't angle enough and went right through the skin out the other side. :banghead: I suspect I did not get any insulin in. :( I know the procedure is to not shoot again, but are there exceptions? Can a reduced dosage be given after checking BG levels? I can be around for testing. I feel sorry for my poor cat, he has such a dumb mom. :banghead::banghead:

I am kind of a newbie here so I'm not certain, but I think it's best not to shoot again. You have no way of knowing how much insulin got into your kitty's system, and it's much safer to be a little high for a day than to risk hypoglycemia. And don't feel dumb, I've done the same thing, more than once, and I'm sure a whole host of folks here have, too, at some point! :):):)

I would not give more insulin. I would only suspect a high PS in the morning. Rupert's BG have to not been high enough to created a problem with a missed dose

Thanks for your help Lucy, I know not to re-shoot, but I hate that he will be so high today. :arghh: Maybe I need to look at a video again! Sheesh. Thanks again!

Hi there, Lynn - just now saw this. Yes, Lucy & Larry are spot-on in the "no re-shot" advice.
Don't worry too much: We've ALL done fur shots!
(Try not to be upset with yourself, as it just happens sometimes - despite our very best efforts!):bighug:

Yeah, I know ... that's why fur shots make us feel so nervous whenever they happen. Could you plug the #s you're getting today into your SS?
I'm assuming that >400 is something you just got, right? What time was that (your local time) ... like 1:30p or thereabouts?

Well, to help keep it in perspective: Look @ where he was on the day cycle on 9/3 @ +3, when he had a pink AMPS & you didn't do a fur shot.
So is to be expected that, after he ate & had a FS, you'd see something @ that level ... don't worry, you're only one shot away to start fixing this.

You can probably shoot a little early tonight with ProZinc, as long as he's still running high & you're 100% certain it was a FS this a.m. Of course, you'll still want to monitor him around +4 ...

He is not too terribly high, just got home and tested him and he was at +8.5, 304, so I must have got some in for sure, plus I didn't feed him @ +6, so it would help keep him a little lower. He had a good breakfast, so figured it wouldn't hurt this once. I had visions of seeing BLACK on his SS and that made me see RED! Hoping he can at least stay in the red at PMPS time. I will check him an hour before then to see where he is at and decide if to shoot early or not. Thanks again to all of you for your help and caring advice! :bighug:

Smart move there, Lynn (not feeding Rupert @ +6). Am glad to hear he was down at +8.5; will keep my fingers crossed for his next pre-shot test #!;)

Y'know, above about 280 mg/dL (approximate renal threshold where glucose is excreted via the kidneys), those breaks into different colors are arbitrary. You're allowed to cusomize that and never see black again if you prefer.

Rupert's BG was 433 PMPS, not as bad as I feared! Whew! I didn't shoot early, didn't want to change the schedule, especially this week. I was very careful with his shot this time, so we should be back in swing of things tomorrow morning. :) Thanks again for all your help, Robin! :bighug:

I didn't know that BJM! I guess it doesn't matter the color, I just worry at those high numbers.

Oh, goody, I'm really glad to hear that!
And you're welcome, Lynn - always happy to help. :bighug:
