So our old vets didn't feel the need for us to home test Tigger...and the new ones don't either! They just said to watch for "clinical changes". One suggested he be on a diet made up exclusively of FF Ocean whitefish and Tuna..twice a day. (We are trying it for this week only) She said her cat was on the same diet and doing great. I thought this was too much fish!!?? And what's with the pharmacist who didn't know that U100 syringes are very different from U40 syringes..and felt that either could be used for the u100 insulin?
I honestly don't know who to trust anymore! Thank goodness for this board!

Yes, that is too much fish. Especially pet food has too much mercury, since it contains scraps from very large fish, that have a higher concentration in their bodies because they are so old. FF classic chicken pate is fine. Classic Turkey pate is fine too.

You don't need their permission to use a meter. Get one and use it, and just don't tell them. It's not your fault that they are ill informed and don't want to learn.

I'm very dissatisfied with vets now, too. It's scary how much they DON'T KNOW!
