Hello all.

Well, I am not sure what to do. It's just before Dottie's 1:30 pm shot, and she's testing out at 143. If you look a her numbers today they are really good, but if I wait another 20 minutes she's going to have ANOTHER day where her shot is delayed by an hour. That seems to be a developing pattern.

Should I just let her coast, feed her a very low carb set of meals today, or what? I hate to see her climb back into those 300 numbers.

Addendum: I'm going to let her coast, and feed her low carb foods. The protocol for Prozinc says if they're under 200 don't do it. So I won't. Thanks anyway, guys. Gonna grit my teeth and get her through another evening.

If she's consistently coming in low like that it's a possibility that it might be too much insulin. However, I'm not an expert so when one of the more experienced members come along they can give you better advice. :) You can either take the route you're doing which is not shoot and that's perfectly fine. I've done that before myself. She will come in a bit higher next time but you know you can get it under control. Or you could also give a reduced dose if a reading is low. Being that she's so recently diagnosed though I think you did the right thing.

If she gets up to 1800/200, you could always give her a small dose and then plan to monitor for awhile. Chasing the number - waiting until she reaches your target and then shooting, might keep her levels low. She does seem to be hanging onto the insulin longer than 12 hours, so waiting until it is gone and she starts to climb may be the best way to handle it for awhile. It will put you off schedule, but if you can do it, it might keep her in nice ranges and still be safe.

Does that make sense?

Have you tried giving the drops. If so, how is that working? If the 0.5 is too much, but the 0.25 isn't enough, then maybe counting the drops in 0.5 and giving one drop more than half might work?

When you get done with your current syringes (am assuming you are using U40), then you can switch to U100 so you can shoot in increments of 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, etc. You will need to utilize the conversion chart. Conversion chart
