Mr. Kittyface was diagnosed with diabetes on 12/17, started him on 2 units Prozinc, twice day on Dec 21. On advice from this board, I bought a glucose meter. I am trying all the advice(maybe not all, but a lot) to get blood from his ear, but so far today I was only successful once. He hates it. He squirms and then I have to make my husband hold him. I don't know how I can get a full day's worth of readings if it is going to be like this! Help!!!

Try giving him a treat for every attempt. If he doesn't like his ears being touched try desensitizing him to having them touched by touching them whenever you pet him.

What size lancets are you using? What meter?

The first couple weeks can be tough to get a sample until the capillaries grow in. Stick with it. Practice on yourself.

I have a video in my signature showing how I test my cat CC at home.

Always aim for the sweet spot warm the ears up first, you can put rice in a sock and put it in the microwave, test it on the inside of your wrist to be sure it's not to hot, like you would test a babies bottle. You can fill a pill bottle with warm water and roll it on the ears also

6. As the ears get used to bleeding and grow more capilares, it gets easier to get the amount of blood you need on the first try. If she won’t stand still, you can get the blood onto a clean finger nail and test from there

Are you using a lancing device, if so you can try testing freehand, just holding the lancet in your hand, I find that you can see where you are aiming better
.Get either 26 or 28 gauge lancets
I would take a look at Janet's video testing her cat

VIDEO: How to test your cat's blood sugar

I just ordered 28 gauge lancets.
You can get them in any pharmacy, CVS, Wallgreens, Walmart rather than what for them . When you look at them you will see one side is curved up, prick the ear with that side pointing up. Good luck, After pricking the ear you can milk it a little, just get your finger and push up towards the blood, gently do it a few times
