Hi,

I had a response from my vet which included him asking if I would like to complete a fructosamine test as "it helps in the full picture with the curve because it measures the changes on the glucose levels on the last 2 weeks, so its a parammeter usually more stable and reliable to have a full view of the disease."

Douglas has one to diagnose his diabetes back in July but I don't want to waste money if this is unnecessary. However, on the other hand, if this could give a good indicator to how his levels are over a period of time that would give a better idea then could it be beneficial?

What are members thoughts on these?

It just gives an average of the past two weeks and you already have that information so nooo thanks lol.

No I wouldn’t bother. The fructo test gives an average of bg over a couple of weeks but you could almost work that out yourself with all the data you have. Also it isn’t of much use when it comes to deciding on a dose at any given time. Save your money and put it towards more strips :)

I never found a fructosamine level helpful. If you are able to get regular tests, the fructosamine is not going to yield more data than what you're already getting. If you are home testing, and getting a broad range of tests during both AM and PM cycles, you really don't need to spend the money.
