1. When did you get your first cell phone?
2. Name one technological invention that you don't think you could live without (obviously not literally live without  ).
3. Do you think kids should still be taught cursive writing in school, or is it unnecessary in today's computer-driven world?
4. Social media sites: a great way to stay in touch or a contributing factor in the decline of personal communication?
5. If you could prevent one piece of technology from having been invented, what would it be and why?

HOLY COW, as I was writing that last question, Buzz saw a squirrel outside and busted through the screen window to get him. I leave windows open when I leave the house all the time, and it terrifies me to think what would have happened if I weren't here when she escaped. I won't be leaving windows open any more, that's for sure! Now if I can get my heart rate back down to normal, we'll all be good.

1. When did you get your first cell phone?

1998. my dad was sick and we were on the road racing a lot so got one in case there was an emergency . learned very quickly though what a nuisance they are and actually got rid of it a couple years ago. finally broke down and got another one since fiance took up long distance bike riding and i've had to rescue him a couple times.

the refrigerator? is that technological? ok, how about a glucose meter? :-)

3. Do you think kids should still be taught cursive writing in school, or is it unnecessary in today's computer-driven world?

i think they definitely should be taught cursive. heck, i'd be happy if they were taught to write at all. LOL!!

4. Social media sites: a great way to stay in touch or a contributing factor in the decline of personal communication?

definitely both. you know a recent study showed that students in the very near future won't be able to get a job after graduationg if an interview is required simply because they lack any and all social skills needed to pull off an interview.

5. If you could prevent one piece of technology from having been invented, what would it be and why?

hmmmmm......given that we've been working our arses off around here lately i'd say the car! i'm so sick and tired of cars right now if they all suddenly malfunctioned and we had to go back to bicycles or horses, i'd be mighty darn happy about now. LOL!!

1. When did you get your first cell phone?

ummm, don't exactly remember....it was when i had to drive to compton 3 or 4 days a week back in, oh let's say 1996ish

2. Name one technological invention that you don't think you could live without (obviously not literally live without ).

well the cell phone clearly...don't know how i ever did live without it. i never HAVE to be anywhere as I am always THERE.

3. Do you think kids should still be taught cursive writing in school, or is it unnecessary in today's computer-driven world?

absolulely...we should try to bring back the ancient art of the hand written letter. so romantic.

4. Social media sites: a great way to stay in touch or a contributing factor in the decline of personal communication?

good and bad. good for communicating. bad for being addictive and forgetting to actually move your body resulting in large rear ends.

5. If you could prevent one piece of technology from having been invented, what would it be and why?

texting. that to me just goes over the top. i mean why? make a freakin phone call or don't say it. that i would say has gotten in the way of making human contact. and it is also an easy way to avoid any form of confrontation or unpleasantness. it is often used to say something or ask something you might not want to bother the person by actually calling and saying or asking.

yes gator!!!!romantic not just for lovers...letter writing used to be an art. a beautifully written letter is like receiving a gift.
and so we agree...no texting! please already. enough with the texting. i think some peeps are texting themselves as they walk down the street.
this is true story. with my friend at a cafe, playing cards. her sister texts from the boardwalk.
'sitting on a bench'
10 minutes later another from same sister
'i'm going to the bathroom, i'm so tired today'

yep, she was about 2 blocks from us. i was just cracking up at that.

1. When did you get your first cell phone?

I had one of the grey Motorola's back when that was actually cool (in certain nerdy circles). The year was..... '95...?

2. Name one technological invention that you don't think you could live without (obviously not literally live without  ).

I do like my TV. And the whole washer/dryer/central heating/etc lifestyle.

3. Do you think kids should still be taught cursive writing in school, or is it unnecessary in today's computer-driven world?

I found cursive slightly traumatic (got in an argument with the teacher about the letter "n") so personally I would be happy to see it ditched. Maybe it could become an art class item, like caligraphy.

4. Social media sites: a great way to stay in touch or a contributing factor in the decline of personal communication?

I just don't really get them, I have no desire to broadcast to everyone I know what I'm thinking or feeling today. I think in some ways it has opened a lot of doors to more connection - like this site... if Bix had gotten diabetes 10 years ago I'd probably still be doing what my vet said (love my vet, but ... ). But on the otherhand, for non-topic-specific socalizing, I'd rather enjoy the in-person company of people I like, with maybe a little email here & there for convenience, but leave it at that.

5. If you could prevent one piece of technology from having been invented, what would it be and why?

Interesting question. I can't think of anything that in itself offends me, but sometimes I wish people would use things better. Like texting in the middle of a conversation, commonplace, but seems rude to me...

Wow, Buzz busted through a screen? My kitties aren't that smart ;) Hope both she & the squirrel came out unscathed!

oooooooo, look at the gator, throwing big words around. smart arse!

OT: Lori, I don't think I've mentioned how handsome Tomtom is. Glad you posted his pic (I know it's been there a while now, LOL, I iz slow....)

you really think so joanna? he has quite a presence about him. when he walked into my home and my life he looked just so/so to me. i had a bengal girl who was incredibly delicious on the eyes...but tom has grown on me with his truly unique personality. never in my life met a cat like tom. so i don't know if he's truly beautiful or only beautiful to me.
he has a solid body, short legs but all muscle and shoulder and a wide chest. he just looks strong. yet he is such a polite cat if there is such a thing. we should have a friday five on our cats personality traits. like his best trait, worse trait, sloppy or neat cat, cuddler or hands off me cat, smart cat or...ummm, special cat,

thank you, i think it looks kind of phantom of the opera-ish!

OMG, SOOOOOOOOO sorry for hijacking this thread!!!
