Freeze dried chicken question: so one of my civies got diarrhea outside of the litter box after I ordered some freeze dried chicken treats. I didn't know when I ordered them that they were made in China. I discontinued those treats and no accidents outside of the box for 3 days. I opened a bag of Purebites freeze dried chicken treats last night and there was a mess outside of the litter box again today. I was reading up on Purebites and it seems they are freeze dried raw. I am wondering if the ones from China aren't raw, too. I've used whole life and simply nourish freeze dried chicken before with no problems. I could find that whole life was cooked but I can't seem to find if Simply Nourish is cooked but it has the same texture as whole life where as the treats from China had the same texture as Purebites. Anyone have any info on which brands are cooked and which brands are raw? I'm thinking raw is not going to work in this house.

I can't answer your question about which are freeze dried raw (China refused to eat any kind of freeze dried treats) but one way you could make sure your cat is getting only what you want is to buy chicken at the store and boil or bake it and cut it into bite sized pieces. Put a few days worth in the refrigerator and put the rest in a ziploc bag in the freezer and just take out what you need for a few days at a time.

I have three cats and none had ever had freeze dried before I bought Purebites! They all love them and nobodie's bowels were effected. I use them as treats and also on top of the foods they don't like as much. Sorry not much help.

I might start making my own on a regular basis. Whenever I do make something with chicken at home, I always make extra for them and they gobble it up. And @Chris & China you're right, at least I'd know for sure what they were getting.

Have you tried contacting the manufacturer's to ask? There's usually a website with an email for general inquiries somewhere. At least some companies are good about responding. The others you might want to avoid anyway.
