Morning everyone!
Just thought I’d post to ask if anyone has any opinions on this subject.
Two months ago when we were dx’ed, our vet told us to get an AlphaTrak vet meter. We got one right away even tho it was expensive. We thought we had to do it. It’s big, errors a lot, take more blood, and the strips
are more than double the price of the human meter strips, made by the same manufacturer, Abbott.
So I got a Freestyle Liter meter (Abbott also). I love it. We did one comparison, it was almost 30 points lower than the vet meter.
But for the last month we have been using the human meter because it seems everyone else here uses them. And we like it.
(My vet told me I shouldn’t use the human meter. She was a bit annoyed with me about it.)
This morning we got a low amps: 138. Since I was in disbelief about the 138, I dug out the AlphaTrak pet meter
just to see the diff in reading. We got a 193 on that. Now I know I am supposed to pick a meter and stick with it. But I just had to know.
And that is 50 points different. You might make a different decision on a bg of 138 vs 193. My concern is we are giving our cat enough insulin.
So, any thoughts or experience on this subject?
