I know many of us need to test for ketones, and sometimes getting a urine sample can be difficult. I had heard about meters, but thought they were way out of my price range.

I did a search today and came across the website of a mom who's child is diabetic. She found this offer.

http://www.novacares.com/dmomfeb.php

I went to the site and signed up for mine. According to what I read, you will also get a savings card for the strips necessary. I expect to receive in about 2-3 weeks and wish I had done this search sooner and been able to share it.

If I should post this on another board, please let me know.

It does take a while for the meter to arrive. If you check on the ADW website, the cost for the meter is very reasonable. ADW may be an option for people who don't want to wait. If you order the free meter, remember to get strips!

Yes, the strips...I think it might come with 2, which is not bad for a start, but if I did read it right, the savings card allows you boxes of 10 strips for $15.00 per box. I haven't checked the ADW site, so the strips might be a better deal from there.

Thank you for posting, I never seem to now when it 's Lucky inn there with 4 cats, it would be nice to check here and there with him he had some ketones awhile back but have gotten a few in and was neg.so it said but that was dipping in his puddle when caught him..

I just got my free Nova Max meter kit. There are a couple of things to be aware of:
  • 1- There are apparently 2 different cards one only works w/ other insurance (NovaMax Co-Pay Discount card) at and the other works w/ cash payments (Instant Savings Card) at http://www.novacares.com/dmomfeb.phpMine came w/ the Co-Pay card although I was sure the site had offered the card that could be used w/out insurance.

2- Apparently the card is only good for the purchase of glucose strips, not Ketone Strips.

I need to call then to get it all straightened out, 1-866-422-4866

I also came across this site, http://livinlavidalowcarb.com/blog/precision-xtra-vs-novamax-plus-ketone-meter-evaluation/15918. From their research apparently the Nova Max is not very accurate in the lower ranges. The Precision Xtra might be a better choice for those who need to closely monitor ketones
