Frankie's first home curve

Good morning all,

Yesterday was Frankie's first curve here at home (every 2 hours) and I'm looking for some opinions. I guess I'm just confused as to whether or not I want him to be more in the dark greens, especially around his nadir? Or is being in the blue all day better? I'm keeping him on the 1.5 today, and I was planning to keep him on that until next week when I do another curve.

I'm not a prozinc person, but in my opinion, that's an excellent range to have him in right now. On an AlphaTrak, those mid-low blues are actually within normal BG range, pretty much equivalent (though there's no numerical way to convert) to the dark green range on a human meter. They're great numbers for him right now!

Thanks for your feedback! He's back to his regular old self. He still walks a little bit stiffly, but I'm beginning to suspect he might have arthritis, so I'll probably get him checked out for that sometime soon. Other than that he's a happy chappy.

That's a pretty darn good curve, especially considering that you fed him high carb food, to keep the BG numbers up.
Frankie may not be very carb sensitive, if the high carb food did not cause his BG levels to spike higher.

Blues are good. Greens are a bit better. But that curve is excellent!

The insulin dose may even be a bit too high. Do you know how to do a "skinny" dose? Or maybe even drop the dose by a full 0.25U, down to 1.25U

Without some more PM cycle data, it's really hard to tell if Frankie is dropping low in the PM cycle, as many cats do. So please do try to get at least 1 more BG test, the before bed test each evening cycle.

I didn't know that could be possible! The food he's on right now is VERY high carb, I recently bought some Dr. Elsey's Cleanprotein but he doesn't like it. I'm seeing if I can slowly sneak it into his food to transition but if it doesn't work, I'll just get him back on his Fancy Feast once I know his eating is fully back to normal (still having to hand feed kibbles a bit). Historically he has been sensitive to carbs as the change in diet almost immediately reduced his insulin dose to nothing last year when I was shooting blind and doing vet curves.

I'll probably see about lowering his dose after next week's curve. But I'll definitely get some more data before then, especially at night because I have no idea how he's looking, maybe a PM +6 or so.
