I went to local small business owner pet food store in my town to see if they had a better selection of grain-free cann food for Cedric. they had a better selection of Wellness than Pet Smart of Pet supermarket (meaning they had 1 or 2 more kinds of the grain free), and a better selection of Evo (they had the 95% beef, venison & duck, which I havent seen at the other stores). They also had these other two brands that I decided to try:

BFF - Best Feline Friend: http://www.bestfriendsfoods.com/aboutfood.html
This is a "sister" barnd to Weruva, which I did not buy (mostly because it seemed to all have gravy and I thought that was bad):

I bought the BFF Tuna too cool which he loved. I gave him some last night, this am, and he'll get the rest in his two snacks during the day (I was so afraid he might attack the auto feeder, but no..). I plan on testing him when I get home to see how it effected his BG.
I have also picked up Tuna & Chicken Chuckles.

Earthborn Holistic:

this is the kind that I bought him, but it does come in other varities.

What are your thoughts on these brands? anyone use them with their diabetics (or civies)?

BFF was one of the only foods Gabby would eat towards the end of her life. We tried almost every flavor, and only a few of them have gravy, but they use potato starch which means they aren't necessarily high carb (it all depends on how much starch is actually in it). The flavors in aspic are all definitely safe for diabetics, and Bandit tried the ones with gravy too but his BG didn't go up. He rises if he has anything above 6% carbs, so I think the gravy ones are likely low carb, too. I avoided the "Valentine" flavor because of the high veggie content.

Sometimes, what they call gravy is actually gelatin goop - ex Special Kitty Turkey and Giblets dinner has a "gravy" of gelatin.

Some of the Weruva seafood varieites are ok. Mack and Jack is just chunks of fish in jelly. Of course you don't want to feed seafood too often  The new Weruva Cats In The Kitchen pouches are in gravy so those most likely can't be fed to a diabetic.

BFF is mostly all seafood based. I wouldn't feed that brand too often.

Weruva has a "cheaper" brand called Soulistic that is sold at Petco http://www.soulisticpet.com/ It's grain and gluten free. The 3 non-seafood varieties are in gravy but it's thickened with tapioca starch which is questionable on bg levels. Some cats are not affected by tapioca starch, others are.

OK, I tested his BG about 1/2 hour ago and it was 68, so I am thinking that the tuna flavor of BFF didn't make a difference. He's usually in the 60s anymore.
Anyone else tried these two kinds of canned food or have thoughts on them? the 2nd one does give a calorie count that looks to be fine for a 17lb cat?
