In the 2 hours before his shot this morning Cecil stole 2 pretty much full bags of freeze dried treats off of the cabinet, chewed through them and ate them clean. I'd just bought them yesterday afternoon. This will be an interesting day to see how that affects his BG and GI.

Jason hadn't tested him when he checked on him at 6:30 so no telling if this 200+ AMPS is bouncing off his low last night or him scarfing over an ounce of freeze dried turkey and chicken.

What a sneaky cat! :o Most freeze dried treats have little to no carbs so any climb in his glucose will just be from eating something.

My Henry does this often...and then Mikey gets into them, too! When this happens with Michelangelo, I notice a "food spike" moreso than a "carb overload" (i.e. prolonged, super-high numbers). If he's the same as Mikey, you guys most likely will see slightly elevated numbers for a cycle or two and then it'll clear out back to normal. :thumbup I've now got their treats in the cupboard above my sink; it's the only place Henry hasn't (yet) figured out how to get into.

haha..........funny! Harley and Davidson do the same thing........if I leave the baggie filled with dried chicken out, I catch them sticking their nose in and eating the up. Won't do any harm, all protein and good for them...........just a filler food and better that then the sweet stuff we used to feed them.

He really hasn't shown interest in jumping on anything, climbs to get up onto anything of height and the cabinet was pretty high so I didn't think he'd go after them and had left them alone after I'd given him one after his early afternoon poke. He IS very food motivated though and had tried to remove the leg of my pants at the shelter when I had a treat in my pocket last week when he was still there. He must have watched Jason put them back this morning and didn't want to wait for breakfast.

He has seemed food sensitive, but looks to be coming back down from it well. Jason had fed him an extra plate of food last night too so the treats may have not affected him at all BG wise.

No treats after pokeys now until I can get back to the store, naughty boy.

One little thing to watch for - freeze dried treats expand when they encounter liquids. Watch for poop problems or acting like he has an upset tummy. I cannot give ANY freeze dried treats to my megacolon kitty - they'll stop him up in a heartbeat.

Naughty boy....
