Forgot to give AM Lantus....7 hours later, glucose almost 500

An unusual chaos happened and I forgot to give the AM lantus dose of 1.25 units. When I realized 7 hours later what happened, I checked her glucose to verify whether she had gotten her shot and it was almost 500. In panic, I gave her .5 skinny units at 7.5 hours as her glucose continued to go up. Now, I'm not sure what to do when her regular shot time arrives in 4 hours. I had finally got her fairly regulated, and this happens.....does anyone know how to get them back on course?

Unfortunately, by giving that shot at +7.5, you've locked yourself into a new shooting schedule and would want to work your way back 15 minutes per cycle or 30 minutes per day

If something like that happens again, just call it a furshot and wait until the next shot time.....You could have shot maybe at +10 or +11 and only had an hour or two to adjust to instead of over 7 hours. We ALL occasionally do a furshot...and while we don't like it (or the numbers we might see), it's best to just wait and shoot at your normal time

Without seeing a spreadsheet, I can't even attempt to advise you on when you might be able to shoot next other than waiting for at least 11 1/2 hours to shoot again now

Thank you so much for this info....wow, I really blew it, but now I understand it.

I just gave a tiny portion of the normal dose, so I'm really up a creek about getting back on schedule.

Part 2: I forgot to mention I couldn't get the spreadsheet up and going. I literally have hundreds of pages of notes and med schedules for all my cats, so I keep very good notes. But when I did curves, my vet wasn't happy with the data and said the numbers were fluctuating too much. I finally just lowered her dose until I got shooting numbers that were in the mid to high 200's and that led to the current dose of 1.25 units twice a day. She has mobility issues so she doesn't move very much and that makes her more difficult to regulate. It's a nightmare because she has kidney disease and I have two cats that are like this, except the second one is very mobile.

I'd be happy to set it up for you....Just click on my name and choose "Start Conversation" to send me a private message. I'll need a little information to do it.

It only takes about 30 seconds once I have the info (but it'll be sometime tomorrow before I get it done...It's going on 2am here)
