Hello all, Sarah here.
First, I am curious if anyone has done research on wet cat food that is super low in carbs. Snuggy is currently on fancy feast classic (all flavors) and ONE flavor of the fancy feast flaked (that has no carbs at all). But, he eats SO MUCH (four cans a day, which is only one more than recommended for his weight) and I have to put out four additional cans per day for my other cat (non diabetic). It's getting quote expensive, and I didn't know if anyone knew of brands that were equally low in carb but came in larger cans...
Second, snuggy has a NEW possible health concern. Today, while petting him like I always do, I noticed a silver dollar sized thing on his upper front paw. At first I thought it was a matt (as he hasn't been able to groom himself for a couple weeks due to the cone of shame) but upon further inspection found it to be a scab like growth. There was no injury, and all the fur is still present. It looks as though it grew up under and around his fur follicles.
Because of his reactive lymph nodes and high white cell count (that the vets could not find cause for) I thought I should take him to be checked out.
The vet shaved the area and inspected it. Gave him a long lasting antibiotic shot (to prevent infection) and said if it grows or I notice new ones, to come back. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?
I had a previous cat (non diabetic) who has esinophilic plaque on his neck... It looks a bit the same, but the vet also mentioned worry of skin cancer.... So I'm unsure.
I can say that snuggy sure keeps things interesting! Never a dull moment around here!
But, as odd as it seems, I love him more for his health issues. It's hard not to love something so sweet!
