This one is probably silly, but I'm trying to pick yet another new food for Trix. I'm looking at the most recent list that was linked in Champ's condo today (I'm sorry, I don't know who compiled the list). Is "Blue" the same brand as "Blue Wilderness"? If so, is PetSmart the only place to buy it?

Thanks for any help! I'm hoping to get Trix switched over ASAP...

Amy

Hi Amy, I'm still going thru food wars with Maggie. Blue Wilderness looks like a good choice, I just clicked on the link Sienne gave you. It doesn't say how many carbs, but looking at the ingredients it has to be very low.

Thanks Ann! According to the "new" food chart posted in Champ's condo yesterday, Blue Wilderness has 2% carbs. This was news to me, but apparently FF had changed their formula and is now higher in carbs than it was before! I recently started giving Trix a 50/50 mix of FF and Merrick's BG, and lately her numbers have been running a bit higher. I don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but I want to try switching out the FF before I give her an increase, to see what happens.

Hi Amy, thanks for that info on "BW". I know; it's too bad for us Purina changed the formula, as there are more carbs in some of the flavors, especially the FF Turkey & giblets. The only FF flavor that doesn't affect Maggie is the Seafood Feast, but I guess too much fish isn't good. I tried Friskies Special Diet turkey & giblets, but now Mags isn't too crazy about it. Let me know how Trixie likes the Blue wilderness. I am going to buy a couple cans for testing.

I wouldn't trust that "new " food chart, I compared the numbers they used and it looks like they just to the numbers from the cans for the calculations. Those numbers are max/min and are not accurate for calculations. The FF Turkey and Giblets does seem to be higher carbs, but the other classic flavors do not spike Tess's BG.

Blue Wilderness Duck is in our rotation. I'm often able to get cheap online only petco gift cards off of ebay which helps to take the sting out of the price. You can usually find a code that will cover shipping (or at least close to the cost of it). The other nice thing about ordering online is that if, for whatever reason, Trixie doesn't like what you choose, you can just return the rest to the store, even if it is only 18 of 24 cases. They'll just calculate the cost per can and refund you for whatever you haven't used. It's $1.59 a can there, which is steep, but if you buy 10 or more, you get 10% off. Occasionally, there will be Petsmart coupons in the Sunday paper, which Petco will also accept.

If you're at Petco, I'd give Nature's Instinct a look too. The food is very, very dense with what seems to be very little water in it. I think that makes it extremely economical... I'd rather pay the cost of water from tap to mix into the food than pay for water as a main ingredient.

Good luck!

Thanks Christie and Ann! Instinct was also going to be one I was going to try. I'm hoping the local, amazing Ma and Pop pet food store has them...they should, the only carry top-notch foods.

I've also been through the food war with Blackie. She was getting FF Turkey & Giblet (4% in carbs if I remember correctly) for the longest time, until I started controlling her weight issue, and getting her off the carbs entirely. I decided to try out the Evo 95% Chicken & Turkey as I've heard a lot of good things about it, and to see if that'll help. She doesn't need much of it, and thankfully she loves it.

I've tried the EVO with Trix. She'll eat it once or twice, then won't touch it. She's generally not all that picky, so she really musn't like it!

I'm entering a food war. 4 cans opened this morning - SO FAR. I've tried the Duck EVO (today) and the chicken and turkey (a few weeks back) and I get that look. The one that says mom- what is this? I am NOT eating this. You've lost youre mind! Jetta just keeps surfing the kitchen counter trying to figure out where I stashed the dry food.

How about Nature's Variety Instinct? Squishy loved that.. but only the chicken, the turkey, occasionally the beef if it wasn't from a "yucky" batch

Weruva is supposedly low carb (company claims under 6% carbs) but some varieties contain rice and/or starches. Squishy only had one of ths fish chunks in jelly once in awhile. Civies love the new Weruva gravy pouched foods but theose are definite no-nos for a diabetic.
