Hi All! I recently began switching my boy from the perscription DM Savory Selects to better store bought low carb canned food. Problem is, he is turning his nose up at all pates! Its so frustrating!! What i began doing because i think he misses the chunks, is i boiled a chicken breast and i am putting some pieces in mixed with the pate. Its the only way he will eat it!! Is that ok?? Im trying to find a "chunky" low carb food off the chart and my next choice is Purins pro plan chunky chicken! My boy is getting so finicky that i have to constantly "mound" the food up on the plate after he eats some and it spreads out too much!!

I think it's fine to mix the chicken breast pieces in with the pate, we have several other members who do that, as well. My Squallie also doesn't like his food after he has spread it out over the bottom of the dish, don't know what that's all about! I tried putting his food in a smaller dish and all he does is lick it up over the sides so it's all on the floor around the dish! Crazy kitties...:confused::)

Thanks! I was getting paranoid...he used to gobble up the savory selects. Before he was diagnosed he ate pate a lot! I have never seen him be so picky!!

Ahhh...food challenges. There are several of us in this battle right now, and almost everyone else has been through it at some point or another, and it will definitely make you insane!

For Whisper, he has to have his soupy (which is great that I can get so much water into him). So after he licks/drinks all of the juice off, he sits there and stares at his dish waiting for you to add more water and mix it up for him again. Lather, rinse, and repeat about 3 more times until he has finally eaten/drank everything. Ugh. I really need a Cat Nanny!

I've been at this for over 2 1/2 years....China's the same way....I put a "pile" in the bowl and IF she'll eat it, as soon as it's spread out I have to scrape it all together into a new pile!!

The other times(when she won't eat it out of the bowl) I have to spoon feed her! As long as I'm sitting there holding the spoon, she'll eat off of it but as soon as I put it in the bowl, she walks away

Silly cats :cat::cat:

I read these and couldn't stop laughing! I have been down BOTH these roads SO many times, lol!!! After a while I start to wonder, "Who's crazy, the cats or US?!?" Obviously, we are very dedicated to our felines! :):):)

Goof is the same way, once it's all spread out, he goes to Mouse's dish and tries to steal hers, gotta watch him like a hawk. If I pile his back up, then he's fine. Drives me nuts. :banghead:

My Layla is the same way! I constantly have to "pile it up" after she flats it!! Melissa, try leaving it "chunky" don't mash it up so much

And to think I've actually had people tell me that most people who have cats instead of dogs, have them because they're too lazy to care for a pet that takes some work. :rolleyes: OMG, if I ever hear that again, I'm taking them STRAIGHT to this site! Lol

Funny stuff you guys, I thought it was just my civvie cat, Forrest who is neurotic with eating. I do the scrap back up into the pile thing too. He eats a few bites and wants to go outside for a few minutes and then back inside to repeat about 6 -7 times until he finishes. It's a real headache with Bubba who would suck up Forrest's food so fast his head would spin so, I have to be the food police at every feeding.

Some of the Weruva and Tiki Cat foods are very low carb and chunky (not pates). The only issue is that they are pricey and can be hard to find. I used to feed the non-fish flavors for my anti-pate kitty. lol

I used to use Tiki Cat, my guys loved it, but it's so expensive! I bought mine from Chewy.com, they had the best price I could find.

So he is enjoying the EVO chicken and turkey cat/kitten...in the black/purple can. I cant even find it online so going to call the company to see if its being discontinued....hope not

If he likes "chunky" or "shredded" type foods, check out the lower carb Weruva flavors. The Cats in the Kitchen line is reasonably priced, and even the more expensive regular line can be mixed with a pate style food for picky cats (I had to do that with Bandit for a while when he was being picky after his pancreatitis episode).

I'm having the same issue with my boy! Doesn't seem to like the pâté style and just licks it around the bowl. Any chunky low carb options???

I boiled a chicken breast and put some pieces mixed in with the pate for the chunky consistency...he loves it now

So an update on Sonnys very picky food behavior....the EVO (with the cut up chicken i put in it to make it chunky) he is now not really enjoying (after 3 weeks of eating it with me "mounding" it back up a few times) He takes a few bites/licks then comes over and just looks at me until i mound it up or give it to him in my hand! This morning i opened up a can of FF Turkey/Giblets pate (which he turned his nose up after eating it for a few days about a month ago) and he ate it ALL up!!! I dont get it! I have NEVER had such food problems....can he just want variety now????
