? Food question & zobaline ?

Hi everyone!
I've had to start work so I have a question or two about food and feeding. How enough should I fed skittles? He has been in remission since the first week of December. His BG runs around 95.
A couple days ago his BG was 75. I put food down when he lets me know he wants to eat. But so much goes to waste when I put it out before work. After a few hours he won't eat it.
I just started work a few days ago. I can come home almost every day I work for lunch but I know there will be some days that I can't. The day he was down to 75 was my first day of work, came home at lunch and tested him. He had food out the whole time I was gone. BUT my dog is freaking out and I can't put him in his kennel anymore and he will eat the cat food. I put a gate up to keep him away from the cat food but my other cat has a hard time jumping over it. Skittles has no problem jumping now that his neuropathy is gone. That's another question, should I keep giving him the zobaline every day?

Shoot, just realized my SS is not up to date .

I don't count calories because he isn't gaining weight. I'm just scared about him not having food in case he runs out or if somehow my dog gets it.
 
If I need to be away for a while, or overnight, the two ways I extend Shenandoah's meals are
1) Add a bit of extra water to it. Not enough to make it soupy, but more like slop. When it's wet, it seems to stay edible for longer.
2) Put down meatsicles. I freeze 1/4 can (plus pumpkin since that's part of Shenandoah's diet) in 2" ice cube trays and then add water until it's just over the top of the food. I put those down as I'm heading out for a while or just before bed. In a few hours they melt, and she has another meal to hold her over.

If Skittles is in remission, meaning you are NOT giving insulin, then you don't need to worry about BG levels so much, as long as they don't start climbing. Hypo is impossible.
I test Shenandoah approximately once/week and she is usually in the 50s or 60s (on a human reader). I try not to test immediately after she ate, but she usually will have eaten within the past hour or so before a test.

If you need to keep the dog out of the cat food, you might want to look into those feeders that open when they detect the correct animal there, and won't open for anyone else. Or see if you can set up some sort of shelf/bench/ledge that might be easier for your other cat to jump onto rather than a gate.
 
I need to make sure I'm correct, what BG level is considered normal? His BG stays within 90 to 95 ( always under 100 at least) I use a human meter to check his levels.

Thank you so much! I knew that but I was seconding guessing myself ( again) . He stays between 90 to 96. I need to update his SS.
The highest he has been was 112 on Jan 18th and I think then he ate some of my dogs food . He comes running when he hears my dogs food bag move !
The lowest he has been lately was 75 on Wednesday, but I don't test him everyday anymore. I just do once a day testing at least once a week. I think I went almost 2 weeks once.

To double check, what's the highest he should ever be?
 
As long as you're testing once a week and he stays on a low carb diet (and out of the dog food!), if he starts to climb over several weeks, it's time to do more testing

If you start to see numbers over 120, you can always do a food test.....test him, feed him and test again in about 3 hours...if the number comes down, his pancreas is working

Generally, if you see something over 150 that lasts more than a few days (and can't be explained) you want to consider getting him back on insulin
