1st question: My newly diagnosed cat, Simon has been on Lantus (2x/day) since last Tues. evening (6 days ago). He is drinking a little less water and his urine output is less. The problem is that he seems to have a constipation problem. When he goes, it is not much and is very small and hard. Can insulin cause this and what can I do about it?
2nd question: I have slowly been weaning him off the dry food and am feeding him about a can of wet food a day (broken up into 3 feedings). I used to feed him about 3/4 of can a day with about 3/4 cup of dry food. I want to make sure I am feeding him enough -- is 1 regular size can of cat food enough for him or should I feed more? I am only feeding him about 1/8 cup of dry food at night and want to eventually cut it out altogether. He weighs 15 pounds (down from 19 a year ago). I have also changed his canned food from Friskies to Hill W/D on the advice of my vet. I understand now that W/D is probably not the way to go and I should be feeding him a low carb cat food. Could this change in canned food also cause a constipation problem?
Thanks for all your help!
