food intake counting cans for Robbie

So I counted can's and tried to chart when Robbie is eating the most and it wasn't easy cause he doesn't finished every plate right away like he used to - he leaves some now - and he doesn't like the food with the cisapride in it so he often won't finish that which is a pain. But if I average it out over a 5 days it's 20 full cans consumed - so basically 4 cans a day - today he seemed to go a bit crazy and really did 5 but Sunday he only finished 3. So he is averaging 4 cans - I've also managed to figure out that he really, really wants more concentrated attention from me when he cries - either at 9pm or at 4am. Most of the time I'd hold him and pet him but now I really make a concentrated effort to cuddle him up and it's helped late at night - he stops asking for food and just curls up next to me on the couch. It only lasts an hour or so but it seems to make him feel better. I have to update his SS which I will do soon - his numbers are just bizarre and I think after 5.0 doing almost nothing for 5 days he dipped down to 175 today and than had what I think was a bounce at PMPS when he was the highest he's been for a while at 393. Wednesday he was never lower than 275 when I tested him (which wasn't often - only one mid cycle test and his amps and pmps) but the mid cycle was at amps +6 which has generally been his Nadair. Anyway, frustrating. Just spent $2200 on car repairs so not sure when I'll get him back into the vet to discuss changing insulin - plus I have 2 full bottles of prozinc in the fridge... going to see what updating his SS inspires.

Thanks for listening gang and for any thoughts or just words of encouragement. Feeling kind of fed up with this - he doesn't look well. Face has gotten very thin, not cleaning himself as often... makes me sad - His 11th birthday was yesterday and his 13 year old sister Roxie looks 8 years younger than he does. My poor baby boy! He got a big chunk of cooked bacon for his birthday treat - practically nipped my finger off. LOL Gotta love him

Robbie is such a beautiful boy! I just want to pick him up and snuggle with him! :YMHUG: It doesn't surprise me he knows which food has the additives (meds). And some people think cats aren't smart? HA!

I hope everything improves for Robbie soon.

And ouch on the car repairs! Hope that doesn't happen again anytime soon!

The food amounts sound a little high, Ellen, but he is a big cat. I don't like hearing he doesn't look well. Is the constipation stabilized? I'll be watching for the updated ss.

Sounds high, like Sue said, but not really. First, he's a big boy. 2nd, we're talking FF classics in 3oz cans. On average, about 80 calories per can, depending on flavor. 325-350 calories, max. Using the 20-30 calories per pound per day theory, I think that fits his weight? He might be eating you out of house and home, but he on a "Hungry Man" diet plan, sort of like a Defensive Lineman!

While it's taxing on you, it's nice to hear that sometimes just some extra cuddle time pacifies him. If he associates "attention" as a substitute for eating, either provides "comfort" is what it sounds like.

Couple questions - you said you have 2 full bottles of Prozinc in the fridge. What the exp date on them? Wondering if the one you are using now might be "pooped out"? As a side note, with that surplus of Prozinc, and given the current shortage crisis, you could probably auction one of them off and pay for your car repairs

That troubles me more than any numbers you can throw at us would. He's probably been through all sorts of tests, but is there any indication of dehydration, or has he been checked for kidney/renal problems, or thyroid issues in the recent past? the old "something else going on" that might contribute to his overall condition and your frustration with the BG numbers...
