My baby doesn't have diabetes or anything, but I give him low carb as if he does. He is just so fat. What am I doing wrong? I give him classic fancy feast 3 oz can 2-3 times a day. He prob weighs about 13lbs, possibly more. I'm just guessing on his weight. I just know he's big and everyone points it out. :(I frequently worry he will get diabetes like my other 2 did. I feel like a horrible cat mother. :( I try to play with him for exercise but he doesn't play too long. I bought some tiki cat like we use to use, but he ate it once this time around and decided he likes FF kitty crack more. Now I wasted money on tiki. What is good for him to eat so that he can lose some weight?

Thanks

All my boys weigh about 11-13 pounds and they're at or close to their ideal weight. I wouldn't consider 13 pounds obese or anything unless he is small-framed? My diabetic used to be over 20 pounds when we adopted him, and the low-carb dropped him down to 13 over a few months. Might be worth investing in a decent baby scale to keep track of his weight, so you can for sure confirm or deny any weight-loss that may or may not be happening.

If you're feeding a smaller amount already, no treats and exercising, thryoid issues also cause weight problems as something to consider.

Two of my three cats eat only one 6 oz. can each of wet food daily, no dry, no treats, no free feeding. One cat weighs about 11-12 pounds and the other is big, 16+ pounds. My diabetic gets a bit more but he needed to gain weight after his diagnosis. Fancy Feast Classics and Friskies pates are often recommended as good low carb wet foods for diabetic cats and should be good for weight loss too. You might try adding a little warm water to the food so it feels like more to your cat. As far as weighing your cat, you can use a baby scale and train your cat to sit on it. I bought one to track my diabetic's weight.

That's what he eats...fancy feast classics. I tried going back to tiki, but he has decided he doesn't want tiki anymore. I have about 10 pouches just sitting in my pantry now. I also add water because he likes gravy, and it gives it a bit of gravy.

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

The first thing I would do (if you hadn't done that yet) is the check up at the vets if you have a good vet.
But don't let them talk you into special prescription diet for weight loss!
Hope this helps.:)

I have some tiki cat pumpkin lickin chick'n left. I don't want it to go to waste. Do you think it is ok to feed it to my dog now and then? I know cat and dog food are diff for reasons, but tiki is suppose to be human grade etc.

Thanks
