I tried searching on here but, couldn't quite find what I was looking for.

We are not too happy with our current vet and we are struggling with being newly diagnosed with diabetes in our male cat.

He is currently eating I/D and EN prescription food because he has pancreatitis. We believe he has Acute Pancreatitis because he has only ever had 1 flare up and that was 3.5years ago.

However, after hours of research we have learned that switching to a low carb higher protein diet is extremely beneficial to coping with diabetes. But, our vet seems to want to change him to M/D food. WE looked it up and it is almost identical to I/D. Plus, he also didn't really recommend we switch his diet.

I guess the questions I have are: is it ok (for now) to continue with this regular diet? Can we continue to leave the EN dry food out (like normal. He is a grazer)? If we transition him, how long should the process take to fully switch him over? Should we also reduce his insulin levels if we do?

Are you giving insulin now?

My Olive has just got over p'titis. I never used Rx food. It's to high in carbs.

Diabetic cats need low carb food. Friskies or fancy feast pate is fine. Best to not give dry food is diabetic. DO NOT CHANGE FOOD IF YOUR NOT HOME TESTING.
