Food choice considerations have my head spinning

Hi all,
Now that I have Tigger eating, all the negative qualities of foods are starting to weigh heavily on my mind. Fish bad, phosphorus bad, etc. Plus my boy has food allergies.

My main focus was getting him to eat and keeping the carb percentage low and I have done that with FF classic and flaked/chunky but now I'm worried about fish and phosphorus. I hesitate to change his food again for fear of him not eating again and his allergies kicking up. FF seems to address all his "problems" except for the phosphorus and fish issue.

Which do you feel is the more harmful of the two, phosphorus or toxins in fish flavors? I know that's simplifying it but that's all I can wrap my head around right now!
Thanks.

I feel you! I am not comfortable with the phosphorous level in FF Classic either, but it is something they will eat. I do try to stick with Chicken though because I sometimes use real tuna, or more often the 'juice' from tuna canned in water, as a treat, and I do not want to overdo it on the fish. I do have a couple of cans of the FF Flaked Tuna in there now that I plan to use in the event that they stop eating their chicken wet foods at some point. I really think a change from time to time keeps them interested.

Does Tigger have kidney issues? My understanding is that the phosphorous becomes more of a concern when kidney problems are present.

Also, have you tried Sheba Perfect Portions Pates? Those have less phosphorous, and my cats like them even more than the FF.

I meant to add that I would not rock the boat too much if you have gotten him to eat, but if you are concerned, maybe you could add a little of something new along with the current to see how that goes. Then, you could transition gradually, if it seems to be working okay.

(I have a food allergy in the mix, too. My civvie, Willow, is allergic to turkey.)

Hi there,
No, he doesn't have kidney issues as of yet, and I pray he doesn't develop them. Thank you for your input ;)

If phosphorus is a concern to you maybe try a low carb low phosphorus food like weruva bff cans.

I feel so guilty now - I think I alarmed you too much in the other thread...
Finding good, not harmful and preferable nutritious food is a huge task these days..
And even if you find one that is good and your cat likes it the companies often change their formulae and you see odd BG numbers:(

We are thinking of switching our cat to raw or semi raw per Dr. Lisa. At least this way we can control what goes in to her meals.

Sorry if I added to your worries.

No, don't feel bad, it's not your fault. Just feeling a little overwhelmed again. I'm just really happy he's eating and I don't have that worry about that anymore. I want the best for him and since considering all this for Tigger, I've started trying to make better choices for my other two.

I think I am just going to do my best. Try to stay on the lower side with phosphorous and limit his fish meals. For now his diabetes management and allergies are the most important to control. At least I am aware of the issues. No worries!

What food/protein is Tigger allergic to?
We never really got to the bottom of it but I strongly suspect it's turkey...but not chicken it seems. I don't get it but that's the best I could gather from the elimination technique I tried before he went on the evil Hill's z/d, lol.

You could try the FF Roasted Chicken, 284 phos versus Chunky which has like 466. Also Pro Plan True Nature Beef and Liver in gravy: 297 phos. Weruva has some good ones too. Have you used the sortable food chart? With the exception of the FF Chunky, most of my boys foods are <300 phos.

He likes something about the chunkys. Dr. Lisa's food chart? I didn't realize it was sortable.
