I have two overweight cats, Izzie is about 15 pounds and Charlie is around 14 pounds...Izzie is currently on Hill Metabolic and Urinary food and Charlie is on Royal Canin Indoor Adult 27. I am concerned about the carbs in each and how much garbage might be in that food. Would Evo Cat Chicken work to slim them down...being that its low carb but concerned about the percentage of fat at 22% from like 12% with the other foods they are currently on...I want to avoid Diabetes with them and they both at risk...Id like to slim them down but give them a good quality food...They both have automatic feeders and both get 3/4 cups per day (which I think might be too much)

Thanks,

Matt

Canned food is better, as cats do not have a good thirst drive. You want low carb canned food, too, which will help with the urinary issue. See the list at Cat Info. I feed mine Friskies pates except Mixed Grill which is around 11% calories from carbohydrate.

When Squeak was dx, I had a younger cat that I noticed had developed a very wide behind. I wondered how I was going to trim the fat. When I put Squeak on low carb food I switched my other cat to the same food (Little Friskies Classis Pate). A month or so later, I noticed that the younger cat had lost his "wide load" and was down to a trim, healthy weight. Cutting the carbs seemed to be the key.

I saw the same thing with one of my kitties, Slugger. He was a little bit chunky. So when Merlin got diagnosed with diabetes, all cats got 4% carb food and he nicely dropped his weight and felt a whole lot better too.
