Kitty is growing tired of the Friskies pates. He prefers something with a wetter texture. Would these be okay?

Hi Mel, greetings to you and Fluff. I looked at the ingredients and wouldn't recommend. Especially when something says Gravy or Sauce!

FISH BROTH, TUNA, CHICKEN, BEEF, CHICKEN LIVER, MODIFIED TAPIOCA STARCH, WHEAT GLUTEN, SOYBEAN OIL, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, CALCIUM SULFATE, GUAR GUM, SALT, DRIED EGG PRODUCT, VITAMINS (VITAMIN E SUPPLEMENT, THIAMINE MONONITRATE, NIACIN, VITAMIN A SUPPLEMENT, CALCIUM PANTOTHENATE, RIBOFLAVIN SUPPLEMENT, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE, VITAMIN B12 SUPPLEMENT, MENADIONE SODIUM BISULFITE COMPLEX (SOURCE OF VITAMIN K ACTIVITY), FOLIC ACID, BIOTIN), CARRAGEENAN, TITANIUM DIOXIDE (COLOR), CARAMEL COLOR, SODIUM TRIPOLYPHOSPHATE, MINERALS (FERROUS SULFATE, ZINC OXIDE, MANGANESE SULFATE, COPPER AMINO ACID COMPLEX, POTASSIUM IODIDE, SODIUM SELENITE), SODIUM NITRITE (TO PROMOTE COLOR RETENTION)

Tapioca starch & wheat gluten are definite carbs, the soybean oil doesn't appeal either. Maybe try some Fancy Feast Classics and switch out brands and flavors. Have you looked at the Food Chart for the varieties of Friskies and FF flavors? Other alternatives are Weruva, Tiki Cat Luau and Tiki Cat After Dark varieties.

Thank you! There is a tiny bowl of Dr. Elsey’s Clean Protein out during the day, which he does eat. He’s still so hungry, though, so before shots I like to give him something he’ll want to actually finish.

Mel, are you home testing? I don't see a meter brand in your signature. If you aren't please know it's the best way to keep Fluff safe, injecting insulin without knowing what the BG is can be very dangerous. And if you are testing you can record in the spreadsheet to see how the insulin is working for Fluff, whether the insulin dose is too high, too low or just right.

From what I can tell, this bunch looks like all no carbs..but be careful of feeding too much fish. See if you can also alternate with chicken/no fish Koolina Luau, Puka Puka Luau

two of the seafood flavors of the Meow Mix Tender Favorites, are OK
tuna & shrimp ... and ... salmon & crab --

surprisingly, Walmart has been carrying these at a reasonable price

also Friskies Flaked with Tuna is low enough in carbs

if that's "too much fish", you could mix some of one of those with pate -- I usually add water to pate and turn it into slurry or soup, partly because of a malformation of Catcat's tongue, it doesn't curl properly -- makes sure he gets enough water during these hot days particularly

but thinking, if you need broth, add chicken stock, the kind that is ONLY chicken, no salt, no spices, no other additives, DEFINITELY no onion or garlic

alternatively, stew chicken in crockpot, pressure cooker, or on the stove, use the liquid for broth to add to pate (you can freeze it in ice cube trays, defrost as needed)

Such good ideas. I just know that he absolutely loves the FF gravy varieties (which I know are a big no), but hoping to duplicate something similar that’s actually good for him.

Candy's suggestions are spot on. I pressure cook chicken and save the broth too. I freeze it up in the ice cube trays, and when Idjit is begging for "MORE" I thaw a cube or two in the microwave and he gets that for a goody to hold him to next regular meal. With this warmer weather, he is getting more water and that's good for him, especially his "pipes". He also gets the cooked chicken for treats. One happy very spoiled kitteh.

Are the Fancy Feast broths okay?
FancyFeast Naturals with Broth?? -- NO!!! carbs from 23% to 32%

A word of caution... there are a lot of different kinds of Fancy Feast now, so you have to be very specific on what you are asking about or providing info for. If you go to the cat food list (link to easy-to-use database version is in my signature) and look at Fancy Feast Natural, all the ones listed have 0 carbs. I believe FF actually calls this line 'Purely' but the description for each flavor includes 'natural' and 'broth'. Below is a photo of the package for the chicken one. On the other hand, they have a newer line called Broths which are different. They are not included in the food list and a calculation would have to be done to get the percentage of calories from protein, fat and carbs (ME Profile) so that you could do an apples-to-apples comparison between it and the ones on the food list (ME profile data is what is on the food list; catinfo.org explains how you can do the math: https://catinfo.org/commercial-cat-foods/#Calculating__Percentage_of_Carbohydrates:). I am not personally familiar with the Broths, but I took a quick look on their site. It looks like some of them are actually 'food complements' rather than actual complete food. Also, some have 'silky broth' while others have 'creamy broth'. So, I suspect that the nutritional specs vary.

Would these be okay?
Here is the info from the food list for the first food you asked about:
MEOW MIX - Tender Favorites in Sauce Chicken & Beef
Protein 55
Fat 35
Carbs 10
Phos 255

Personally, I like to see lower carbs and phos. My girls like Weruva Chicken Frick A Zee. I add water and a little chicken broth, mix it up and microwave it a few seconds.
