Ricky went to join Rascal, Witn, Spot and Sculley at the Rainbow Bridge this morning. rb_icon

Early this morning I woke up to hear him crying in pain. He was having a hard time breathing and could not walk. My first thought was a hypo and tested him immediately. His BG was in the 300's. So I rushed him to the emergency vet.

They discovered that he had a blood clot blocking the flow of blood to his back legs. They were not getting any blood at all and he was in a lot of pain and his back legs were paralyzed. He also was having a hard time breathing. They had him on oxygen and had given him asthma meds to see if that would help with the breathing.

I could not let him suffer like that so I had to let him go. He was such a sweet cat, he was my lover boy. Ricky originally came to me as a diabetic foster. The person that was going to adopt him had to back out because of some personal issues so I kept him. He loved everyone. It is going to be so hard not seeing him every day.

Fly free sweet Ricky. I love you and am going to miss you so much. wings_cat

Lisa, I'm so sorry to hear of Ricky's passing. He will be missed. You gave him the last best gift you ever could, letting him free from his pain. You only did what you needed to do, easing his way to the Rainbow Bridge. I hope you gave him his snot halo as a final goodbye.

Fly free little Ricky. You have earned your wings. wings_cat

Bless your heart for letting him go to the Rainbow Bridge where he will no longer suffer. I know he will be missed as a little piece of your heart goes with him. He was loved and cared for and that's really all they need - and you gave it to him.

Fly free sweet Ricky.

I'm crying for you. I'm so sorry for your loss. We do what we know is best for them because we love them but its so very very hard for us.
My deepest deepest sympathy for you at this time. rb_icon

(((((((((((((((((((((((LISA)))))))))))))))))))))))))

Sending many many cyber hugs. Ricky knew he hit paydirt when he landed in your home.. there was a reason his adopter backed out-YOU were meant to be his mom.

Ricky is flying free now, whole and healthy over the Rainbow Bridge. rb_icon

Requiem aeternum, Ricky.

Its the same thing which got Spitzer, a saddle thrombus. You did the right thing by him. Recovery of the leg function is iffy, and can leave the cat in chronic pain, and a high chance of throwing another clot within 10 months.

Thank you everyone for your kind words. As you can imagine, it was very difficult when it was time to feed the other cats. The test, feed & shoot routine is so normal that I automatic reach for his testing supplies before I realize he is no longer here. I miss him so much. Even the other cats know something happened. They have all be more attentive to me than normal.

Such sadness for you (((((Lisa))))). Fly free, dear Ricky, and land softly back in your Momma's broken heart. wings_cat

Yes I understand how hard it can be. I just lost my George just a little over 3 weeks ago. I keep finding myself taking out 3 bowls instead of 2. I actually hid one so I would stop doing that.
I still have the sugar cat and the drooler (dog) to take care of however every time I prepare food it brings deep sadness. The cat seems to have gotten over it rather quick. I found that surprising since she has never been without him. I had him a year or two before I found her on my doorstep. She has been with him all of her 14-15 years of life. The clown of a dog on the other hand seems to understand that I am sad. He keeps trying to keep me entertained with his antics and gives me a lot of doggy kisses when I cry. Thank goodness you and I have other critters around to help us get through this!! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that you can find peace and comfort.

So sorry it was time for Ricky to go. That very same thing happened to my cat, Sockets. At first he threw a clot to his front shoulder, but eventually he threw one to his lower spine and we had to make the same decision. Sounds like he has plenty of friends to show him around on the other side. Thank you so much for adopting him and giving him a loving home. Fly free little Ricky wings_cat

Fly free sweet Ricky. Prayers and hugs to you Lisa; you are truly a wonderful mom by giving Ricky his freedom from pain, knowing the pain it would cause you.
