Fluid Question.....Normosol

I have Normosol for civvie CRF cat Frankie....can I use the same fluids for Houdini?

Why are you using Normosol on your CRF kitty. It has potassium and Magnesium in it. Usually kidney patients don't usually need extra potassium. Just wondering. Usually you use Lactated Ringers or Normal Saline. I'm just curious.

Why does Houdini need fluids? I would probably not use the Normosol on Houdini. Just my opinion.

I've rarely used Normosol working in Peds ICU.

Many kitties with CRF do need extra potassium. I gave my Stuart a potassium supplement.

I guess what I should have stated was that Normosol has MORE postassium in it than does Normal saline or Lactated Ringers and is not the usual fluid recommended.

I just asked the vet for a bag of fluids for Frankie and that is what he gave me. Hmmmm.

Houdini had the runs for several days last week and is just not drinking a whole lot since then. Also he looks a little dehydrated when I scruff him......just thought some fluids might perk him up a little.

Frankies 3-3-13 blood test showed Potassium at 4.0 and Magnesium at 1.7 Both in normal range so I wonder why he gave me Normosol.
