This morning is levels were HI Called vet told us to increase to 3units. Took his blood at 6pm and it was 273 hope it was ok to give 2 1/2 units or do you think I still should have given him 3 units? Still eating, not much but a little at a time.

You have so many issues going, Rose, this is hard to advise on doses. But your 2.5 units sounds fine. Paws crossed that he will continue to improve and want to eat. Have you tried baby food? You want the meat varieties without any spices or onions or anything. Sometimes cats really go for it.

I really hope Fluffy starts to feel better and eat better soon. I know it's been hard for you both. I had a sick kitty once and Sue's suggestion of baby food really helped.

Hi Rose, and, of course, you too, sweet weak Fluffy,

I think it's a very good sign that Fluffy is eating, even though "not much, but a little at a time." Just keep the food out there for him to nibble, okay?

DKA takes a hell of a lot out of them. I know. Giz was diagnosed diabetic and DKA in the same breath...

Things you can add to perk up his appetite:

Parmesan cheese sprinkled over his regular food -- adds an enticing stinky factor...
Deli meat -- oven roasted turkey and chicken. Roast beef and the occasional ham (not honey baked!) can be an enticement...
Peach yogurt worked for Gizzie... Also raspberry and blueberry...
Tuna juice/water sprinkled over his regular food -- again, that enticing stinky factor...
Cheese -- Giz had a particular fondness for extra-sharp Cheddar...

Basically, anything in a pinch...

Giz came back from DKA and danced for four more years. I understand Fluffy has possible multiple issues going on... Sometimes diabetes can be treated secondary to more pressing issues... Just want you to know that, okay, Rose?

Please know we're all rooting for you and Fluffy! Because we truly are.

Love and hopeful encouraging, healing, and hungry hugs,
Deb and Nikki -- and, Giz, forever dancing in my heart...
