Hi everyone,

my cat is newly diabetic and i've only just started testing his glucose. i'm noticing from yesterdays glucose curve and today's AMPS level that he's really fluctuating.

Yesterday we started at 23.9 (430) and he dropped to a 4.5 (81) within 5 hours. This morning we started at 12.3 (221) before his shot but based on the vet's guidelines I was still to give him his insulin. I've given him his one unit but now wondering if that was wrong. Is it normal for cats to fluctuate this much? One morning be 23.5 (423) and evening be 16 (297) and then the next day be 23.9 (430) in the morning and 27.3 (491) in the evening, and the next morning start off with 12.3 (221)?

I'm going to check his BG soon but I'm just nervous because of how much it dropped within 5 hours yesterday, and today it's starting off significantly lower than it was yesterday.

The lowest point in the cycle on Lantus will often be between +5-7. You want it to be around 70-100. Do you have high carb food and karro syrup or honey in case there’s a drop under 68?

That's comforting to hear, thank you! I have honey and karro syrup ready just in case but really hoping I don't have to use it!

I'm planning on testing him around 11am, this will be at the +5 hour mark.

I checked your spreadsheet. Looking good. You would go to hc and or syrup if the bg falls to 68 with a pet meter which you are using now. That won’t happen today I’m betting.
