Floyd's Curve.

Hi and welcome to the world of PZI.

Good job getting the morning PS, but 139 is too low of a number to shoot any insulin on.

Our no shoot number is usually 200.

Robin

Great. His amps is an indication that the one unit was probably too much and you will need to reduce the dose. (This is GREAT news!) We don't want you to shoot under 200 and then it would be a reduced dose. If you can pull up his food and test again in 2 hours, we can see where he goes. (I am leaving but Rob and Carl will be around to help.) It may be that you will just have to skip this am and see what he needs this pm. If you do have to skip and give no insulin, you won't need to do the curve today. Wait until a day when you are giving insulin.

What magic taking away the dry makes!

Alright so, test him in two hours or try and get him to eat first before testing in two hours?

Rob, what do you think? Should we just call this and skip this am? Or retest in 2 hours and see if he shoots up? (If that alternative, feed him now.)

I am thinking you wanted to change your shot times right? Would it improve your schedule if the am shot was 2 hours from now every cycle or would that mess you all up?

Uhhhhh, I have no idea what any of that means. I already fed him, he ate a bit and I removed his portion so his brother wouldn't eat it all. I haven't given any insulin because you guys are saying 139 is too low. So, now what do I do??? I was supposed to do his curve today and now you're saying I can't?

Not saying you can't, just saying you don't need to waste the time and strips. A curve is to tell you how the insulin is working. If he isn't getting a shot, the data won't tell you much.

We tell new diabetics not to shoot under 200. 135 is a great low number after 12 hours since the last shot. I am thinking the wet food is really going to reduce his numbers and you will need to reduce from the one unit.

I know things changed fast, but this is a GOOD change.

Morning and evening is ideal for me. So, try and feed him periodically through the day and wait until this evening and re-test?

With the switch to low carb wet food and his bg numbers coming down I think it is a good idea to skip the shot until this evening.

He might be high tonight but that's ok, post your number and we can talk it over, Sue should be back by then.

Also pick up his food 2 hours before his PMPS so his bg numbers won't be food inflated.

Good job catching that lower number this morning. :-D

I had to pull his food because his brother would scarf it, I'll periodically offer it to him and make sure he doesn't have any 2 hours before test time. Thanks for your help everyone!

Hmmmm. Let me see if Carl or Robin are around. I am thinking .5 units. The one unit gave you an unshootable number this am and even 24 hours after insulin, he has only gone up to the 300s. So the one unit looks too high.

The other issue is that the diet change may continue to bring his numbers down.

Do you need to shoot now?

I'll see if Robin or Carl want to weigh if you can wait a few minutes.

I've got nowhere to be! I can wait if need be. Should I feed him a bit?

Yeah, I'm with Sue on the dose. The 1 unit doses he's gotten recently have packed a wallop. oops, wrong kitty. However, if it's been 24 hours, and he's only up to 300, and with the recent diet change, better safe.

Carl

Yes, .5u sounds good, if he's done eating, you can go for it.

If you can get a test before bed, that would be good information.

Remember in the am, if you get anything around or lower than 200, please post and ask for dose advice. If he is in the 300s again, I'd try for the .5 again. We need to see how the dose works with the diet. We're being a little conservative. You can always increase in a few cycles if you need to, but better to play it safe for now, so early in this dance.

As long as you get a shootable number in the am, a curve is a good idea.

Just before you go to sleep. Keep track of when (is it 2 or 3 hours after the shot?). . It is good information to know if he is just going along with a small drop. We don't want him to surprise us with a sharp drop (we are not expecting that)

Tomorrow we need to get a spreadsheet set up for you so you (and we) can start seeing patterns and trends. It will helps you understand what a good dose for a given number would be.
