Flea treatment, hairball paste and diabetes

Hello,

My diabetic cat went into remission and was off insulin for 4 months. He was doing just fine. But two weeks ago I gave him spot on flea treatment (applied it on his neck) that works for a month. And last week I gave him hairball paste. I check his glucose levels from time to time and for the last three-four days my cat's glucose levels are higher (144 - 234).

Could this be connected to flea treatment and hairball paste? Should I start giving him insulin again or wait for a couple of days? There weren't any other changes in his diet or regime.

He still doesn't show any other symptoms of diabetes.

Don't really think the flea treatment is the cause. I'm not familiar with hairball paste but read the ingredients for anything that looks like sugar/sweetening. To err on the side of caution I would not use the paste again. I think sometimes that the glucose levels sometimes take swings when the pancreas "hiccups". How long have you been in remission? I think it would be wise to do a couple of at home curves and see how those look before going back to insulin.

What type of insulin did/do you use?
What do you feed and when?

it is very likely the hairball paste.
Nearly all of them are sugar based....

you are better off with coconut oil, or butter, or even vaseline rather than those hair ball products for cats.
