my cat has just been on a diet of pure chicken and wet fish by the vet but now to transfer to a special diet for weight control; but as I done this within a few days she got doaherrea again, with being on wet food both meals.
Can I put milled organic flaxseed in her food? Only 1/2 a tsp just to try and keep on top of her tummy issues?

Are they allowed flaxseed please ?
Thank you

If Lunar needs to lose weight, you need to control the amount of calories she's eating and encourage her to get more exercise.....just like when humans need to lose weight

Those prescription foods for weight loss have the WORST ingredients and are very high in carbs so aren't good for a diabetic cat at all.

If you google flax seed and cats you'll find mixed reviews. Some say not to use it. Others aren't opposed. Your best bet is to run it by your vet. Your vet should be aware of whatever supplements you're giving to your cat anyway.

Thank you will ask Vet. As for the food it's the one that the shelter and thevet agree she should on to help her lose most weight healthily.

I'm only asking about flaxseed as since going back onto this diet she has had disdhosea

Diarrhoea can be caused by change of food or by many other things.
I would not use flax seed for that but maybe slippery elm powder but first of all I would not use prescription diet.
There is a list of food which we suggest for diabetics, depending where you are, USA or Europe.

And another thing: I'm going to tag Mogs @Critter Mom as she is so knowledgeable she might be best to give you suggestions about feeding your kitty.
Good luck.

Just saw the tag. I've no knowledge or experience of use of flax seed for animals.

Just did a quick web search. Here are some links:

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21440312

From the above link:

Flaxseed Oil vs. Fish Oil
Flaxseed oil does indeed contain omega-3 fatty acids; however, because cats are designed to be carnivorous they have more trouble converting the plant-based flaxseed oil than they would a supplement that came from a meat source, such as fish oil. Only about 10 percent of the flaxseed oil you give your cat will be converted to storable fatty acids, while a larger percentage of a fish oil supplement can be converted by the feline body. Flaxseed oil is beneficial, but requires a larger dosage and longer to build up in the cat's system. Fish oils are more efficient for cats.

From the above link:

How to Include Flax Oil in Your Cat's Diet

Cats are finicky, so introducing flax oil may offer a challenge. Start by letting him lick some off your finger, or offer a couple drops on an empty plate. This will help you determine if he likes the flavor by itself. If that doesn't do the trick, put a drop on a piece of favorite food. You can also add a drop or two to his regular food or treats. In time, hopefully he will get accustomed to the flavor and you may gradually increase the amount. Watch for signs he's not adapting. These may include diarrhea -- a common side effect from too much flax -- vomiting, gas, bloating and decreased appetite. Over time, you'll get a sense of whether your kitty and flax are friends or foes.

[Emphasis mine]

As with all supplements, be sure to discuss potential benefits and risks with your vet before considering giving them to your cat.

Thanks for all info.
My cat is actually eating, as vet has recommended, a hypoallergenic diet of, chicken (allergic to fish), tomato, brocolli, carrots, milled flax (vet has recommended this to help bind her up); and going to try cauli soon. But vet doesn't want to have too many foods on go too soon. She will also eat turkey i know. But she loves this mix and eats it better a lot better than her old pouches.

I'm glad you've found something to help Lunar. I'm having major food/GI problems with my civvie at the moment. It's good to hear success stories.

She was started on steroids yesterday. Still has yellow diarrhoea but at least she's eating the chicken, rice and broth consistently. We have a ways to go, methinks. :(
