First time diabetic cat parents.

Hello everyone,

My name is Taylor. Recently learned our cat is diabetic. Both hubby and I are little nervous having never done any of this before. Thought this would be a great way to get some good feedback and support. This is the first night having her home and we had to force feed before insulin. Just a little scared.

Hi and welcome. I think your will find this to be a very supportive and knowledgeable group. Sorry about the diagnosis... I understand how scary and overwhelming it is at first, but we are here for you.

If you have any specific questions, please write on the main health forum where more eyes will see it.

You can also set up a signature like you see under all of our posts so we don't keep asking orbs same questions.

Click on your name at the top right corner and choose signature. Add info such as your pets name, date diagnosed, insulin type and dose, food you're feeding and any other health concerns.

You said you had to force feed tonight? Does he not have a normal appetite? Does he have ketones?
 
Hi Taylor and hubby. Welcome to FDMB. We know how scary and overwhelming it can feel when you are told your cat is diabetic. However once you learn more about it and find a routine for your cat's care that works best for you, you will find it is not as scarey as you thought it would be. We can help you learn everything you need to know.

Can you tell us more about your cat? What insulin and dose was prescribed? What food are you feeding her? You said you had to force feed her? Was that due to her not feeling well or did the vet also change her food?
 
Welcome Taylor. This is the place. I never touched a syringe before. Then I landed here and got a bunch of help.

Believe it. The first 2 or 3 weeks can be a learning curve. Then after that, it pretty much just becomes routine. If I could do it, so can you!
