Hi, I'm Barb, my kitty is Froggii (or Mr Frog as I call him often)

I'm posting in this forum for a couple of reasons.... First, because I really screwed up last night and left Frog's insulin sitting in my 'toolkit', and I'm wondering did I ruin it? I only have the one bottle and now I don't know if it is still safe/good to give him :(

Secondly, I feel like I'm screwing up his dosing, I can't figure out if I should increase it again, or stick with the smaller amount I have been giving him.(.40)

Also, I've been really busy lately and haven't gotten to do an actual 'curve', but this last couple days I've been playing hell just getting any blood out of him for some reason, 2-3 pokes minimum... which kind of sucks, since for awhile I was getting it in just one. He of course isn't happy about this, and is getting more and more squirmy. I tried to use his other ear, but he wont let me even pet it/scratch it, keeps shaking his head. Assuming I even CAN get the required blood, which hours should I be aiming at for a curve? I've seen people mention odd every others and even every others (I hope that made sense)

Any dosing help would be much appreciated

Hi Barb and Frog,

I have been following you on Health (I post in both forums). Glad to see you here. It is a much smaller forum than Health so you may have to wait for an answer. (post on Health for more eyes if you have an emergency). Lots of posters here are new so you can look at their ss and see how they are doing.

I would try .5 again. You dropped from .75 to .5 for only the one cycle and got a few lower numbers but that might have been a carryover from the previous cycle when you shot a lower preshot. The .4 doesn't seem like quite enough. Be sure you can get some numbers any time you make a change.

Are you sure really warming the ear for a minute or more? And using a 25 - 27 gauge lancet? Those two things made the difference for us. Also, don't be afraid to make a quick second poke in the same place to enlarge the hole.

It would be great to get a +3, 6, 9 if you can for a curve, though any data is helpful.

Thank you, I was thinking the same thing, about the .5 .

I will try the double poke, maybe that will help. I do warm and massage the ear very well, usually until I can see the ear becoming pink on the back side (outside), he is black so its pretty noticable when the ear goes pinkish. I will try to make sure it is a full minute then, if you think it will help, and yes, using 26g lancets, manual pokes.

I will work on getting the +3, +6, +9 today.

Hi Barb and Mr. Frog, welcome to our PZI group,

There is no way of knowing for sure about the insulin being left out, how hot is it where you are? Heat & sunlight are the two biggest things to damage it. Can you see floaties in there? The best way to tell is if your curve today is flat and without a drop in the middle.

It is pretty cool in the place where it was left, probably about 68 degrees (F), no sunlight in that room at all essentially. I dont see anything particular floating in it, but it is vaguely cloudy, as it has been since I got it. I had asked about it elsewhere and was told the ProZinc is a suspension so it is supposed to be slightly cloudy.

Judging by the numbers you've gotten so far today it seems to still be good.

In case it has lost some potency, when you start a new vial maybe reduce the dose for the first few shots just in case.

I was also wondering, here in this group (PZI) I see alot of posts that are simply the name of the kitty and the am or pm numbers, am I supposed to be doing something like that? I've been keeping the test results on the spreadsheet only so far.

If you want to post daily, you certainly can. People usually put their amps in their first post of the day, then update the subject the rest of the day with any numbers they have. It is nice because people can see what is happening right away. Sometimes if you add onto a long post, people don't see what is happening right now. Anytime you need help, be sure to add that to your subject.
