I have a few questions. This will be my fist time giving Jerry his insulin shot. I know I need to test, feed and then shoot. Jerry had a insulin shot at 9:00 this morning and as of right now is BG is 165. So six hours after his morning shot. If it's lower then 165 at 9:00 tonight do I still give insulin? He is on Lantus 0.5 units twice a day. I'm so confused!

Did you get a BG before this morning shot?
The PM shot depends upon the BG value. I suspect yes, give a shot since BG should be higher

At 5:00 this morning it was 352 and then at 7:15 it was so high the meter was flashing HI. I rushed him back to the vet where they gave him the insulin.

He come last night with the hope it could be controlled with food and a diet. That went out the window this morning with it being so high. Scared me to death!!

The 5 AM BG show a good response to the insulin.
I am not sure if the 7:15 BG was valid unless you fed before that time. A diabetic cat not on insulin typicall has a relitively high BG before feeding and then it goes up and back down before net feeding at 12 hours.

when I picked him up at the vet yesterday around 4:00 his BG was 69. They had already gave him his insulin. He was up at 5:00 this morning and had his food.. BG was 353.. Two hours later it was so high the machine was blinking high so I rushed him back to the vet. I had no insulin at home to give him because they was hoping it would be able to control with diet. So how do I know when to give or not give the insulin? Say it's still 165 tonight at feeding do I give or not? That's my biggest concern..

Hi April

If you don't get any replies on this board, I suggest you start a new thread on the Feline Health Board with the title "Dosing Advice Needed: Just Starting on Lantus" and give the numbers you've got thus far for Jerry in the opening post. There may be more traffic on Feline Health than in the Welcome section.
