First hypo experience

So my cat tested 46 just now. I gave him 1/2 can of Friskies MC wet and DM dry. I'm going to test him again in 15 minutes to see where he stands. He has no symptoms and seems fine.

This is my first experience with him being too low, so I want to cover my bases. How often should I check him? Usually I pick up his food at 4 ( 2 hrs PS), but should I not do that? Now, I know I should reduce his insulin tonight, or should I not give him any (assuming his number goes up)

Basically, I need to know what exactly happens now?

If I would have known he tested in the 50's at 1 pm I would have intervened then, but I was out.

Nothing has changed in diet or anything, so I'm assuming it's just part of having a finicky cat, HOWEVER, the last 2 nights he's been running in the reds and that's super unusual for him. I didn't get the +11s, but I think he may have stayed flat and didn't nadire. At first, I thought maybe it was from a bounce, but now I'm flat out confused.

Am I giving him too much?

For others too:
The PS was 442 and the 46 was at @+9. Using Prozinc

The 46 is uncomfortable low even using a human meter.
Are you giving YAZ with every meal? Does the "4th cup YAZ" mean you are giving 1/4 cup twice daily?

I would reduce dose to maybe 1 1/2 units (from 2 units). I would also discuss with your vet changing from ProZinc to either Lantus or Levemir since those insulins tend to result in flatter curves.

Please take a look at the following links so you are prepared if TuffKitty has a hypo:

It can be frightening when they drop and knowing what to do and when can make all the difference. Idjit dropped just a little once, like TuffKitty and I wasn't prepared. You better believe I printed out the hypo instructions and made my hypo tool box right away. Idjit's been off insulin for about 8 months now, and I still have his little toolbox where I can get to it LOL

He gets maybe the 4th cup 1 xday total. I've cut back a little, so I can adjust my signature.

My vet is getting back to me this week. I've been looking over Lantus and considering switching. It sucks because I've just got this new vile. :(

About ready to test him again. Would it be better if I gave him higher carb food tonight?

I've read the hypo list before and that's why I wasn't freaking out, I just wanted more hands on advice, or actually, more like input.

I agree, it's nice to have input when the BG drops. I'm glad you know what to do, I gave Idjit too much Karo and food right away, if he had needed more he would have been too stuffed to want it. It's a learning process to be sure. :cat:

I was very calm, and broke out my MC, which he LOVED and some DM dry. Cat basically slept and wanted to play after. Now he's in the 300's.

What confuses me is the BG numbers at night. He's been in the 400's the last 2 nights. Then he just dropped 9 hrs in this morning.
