The first change I made after diagnosis Jul 22nd was to change food. Within a day or two of the adjustment, Maverick has been drinking a lot less and peeing less since the shift to more canned food. I had always fed canned food am and pm, but my choice of leaving dry out (albeit well intentioned since it was "grain free") must have contributed to his diabetes no doubt. He was never obese, highest weight was 6.5 kg last year.
I held off with the Lantus to give the low carb diet time to work a bit, and was simply also worried to not be able to get any blood tests...just learning how that works and didn't see anything on the early attempts. Started Lantus 1iu once a day Jul 27th, because I was worried about him going hypo and not being here, I hope I didn't mess things up too much for him.
Finally got on board with twice daily yesterday. My blood test technique has been refined...and woohoo, first successful blood draw/test! I'll get going with the spreadsheet, just felt really good that I can finally start getting Mavvy on the right path!
