This is my first attempt at the spreadsheet and a full days testing. Results look high? Not sure what Dosing method SLGS or TR means. All help appreciated

I have been getting the impression from this forum that the Lantus and Levemir are a better way to go. Does anyone know if the dosages and needle types and units are the same between the various insulins? Is there a conversion chart? Still trying to get a handle on the treatment methods!
Thanks

I see you are using Vetsulin (Caninsulin). I am too. I was a bit confused with the spreadsheet terms so I defined them on my spreadsheet when I started last month. You can read over my notes (probably too much info) and it might help. Just click on the spreadsheet in my signature below.

Caninsulin is a U40 insulin that requires U40 syringes.

Lantus, Basaglar and Levemir are U100 insulin's so require U100 syringes.
Cool. Would the number of units change between the two different syringes? If I’m currently dosing 1.5 units with a U40 and Caininsulin what would the equivalent dosage with a U100 and Lantus

A unit is a unit. If you switched to Lantus, you'd need to get U100 syringes so 1 unit would still be 1 unit, just on a different sized syringe. Where are you? I know you're not in the US because the same insulin is called Vetsulin here but in the rest of the world, it's called Caninsulin.

If you want to switch, we'd take into consideration the dose you'd be using with the Caninsulin at that time. Usually, if you're giving X units of Caninsulin, you'd start at X units of Lantus too (or possibly a tiny bit less for safety). We couldn't tell you right now what dose you'd start at because we'd have to wait until you were actually ready to switch to see how much Caninsulin you were giving.

I’m on the wet coast of BC Canada. Great info
Thanks

When using Caninsulin or any other insulin you withhold food 2 hours prior
before testing. You don't want the reading to be food influenced

With Caninsulin you test, feed , then wait 30 minutes after feeding to give the insulin
shot

All my results are done that way. The vet had told me I could only feed twice a day 12 hours apart. This has not been at all popular with Lucy. Also seemed a bit counterintuitive as human friends with diabetes eat more small meals. the more I read on this incredible forum it seems the, no feed 2 hours prior to testing is the preferred method, with food available the rest of the time. I tried this last night and neither cat was swating at me between 2 am and 4 am when I prefer to sleep.

We all feed our cats smaller meals durning each 12 hour cycle.
When my vet told be to feed only twice a day I said are you kidding me.
I just ignored what she said and listened to all the amazing members here.

Smaller meals throughout the day is easier on the pancreas. :cat:
