Finally have a spreadsheet up!

Thanks to Marje&Gracie on here, I have a spreadsheet! Been on here since Tigger was diagnosed in April, but no data. It's funny to look back on it now....3 days after his diagnosis, we left on a 6 week RV road trip..our schedule was crazy, we were new to testing, and I see we never even tested him in the mornings those first couple of weeks! He's had 2 dose increases, and I think his numbers do look slightly better than they did, but now he's bouncing. Anyway, thanks again to Marje for all her help!!

Good to see your spreadsheet is up! I can see why Tigger is bouncing a lot. He's on a fast-acting, short-acting insulin, Vetsulin, which doesn't last up to 12 hours in cats. At best, maybe 8 hours. To get optimal benefit, you'd have to give it every 8 hours, something few caregivers wish to do. Few cats are on Vetsulin. Tigger would do better on a longer-lasting insulin like Lantus, Levemir or Prozinc.

@Squalliesmom has been working very hard to get her cat regulated on Vetsulin and it hasn't been easy.

What are you feeding Tigger?

Yes I'm going to discuss switching him to Lantus this month with the vet. We discussed it last time but we decided to try a little bit longer with the higher dose of Vetsulin. She even said that cats have better chance of remission with Lantus. Then why the heck do they prescribe Vetsulin in the first place?! I'm feeding him Fancy Feast Classics.

You're on the right track with Fancy Feast Classic and switching to Lantus. If cost is an issue, note that Mark's Pharmacy, one many people here use, is now selling single pens at a great price with no waiting list involved.

A lot of vets are simply not familiar with how Lantus and other insulins work. Many also may have experience using it for dogs but what may work for dogs doesn't always work well for cats. Vetsulin is one of them.
