So last night Fern kept me up. +6 at 54, So 3 units at 293 was a tad too much. Surprisingly he didn't bounce too hard this am but did give me a 358 which made me happy because I didn't have to think about it.

So the per the vet I"m suppose to give 3u above 300 and 1u between 250-300. I knew last night 1 u was going to be too little. When he was closer to the 200-250 mark and rising I've been giving 1.5u and I think it's a pretty good mark I might adjust it to a fat 1.5.

My question is about say the 280-330 range. I think 3u will be too much but 1.5u is too little. Do I drop back to 2.5u or somewhere in between?

You did great staying up and getting all those tests in last night! Yes, 3 units was definitely too much.

I like the scale Sue described.

+6 140, nice and steady. I called my vet and let them know what happen. I want to keep them in the loop. The vet tech and I both agree that 3u at or about 300 is too much. She wants the doctor to review and get back to me. I assured her that Fern seems no worse for wear after last night unlike his bean.

Bleep, I shouldn't have called the Vet. they are telling me not to give insulin tonight and tomorrow. Not until I speak to Fern's primary vet. They warned me of bouncing and told me not to bother testing because I might see a high number and I won't be giving insulin anyway. I'm probably going to do what I want and be more conservative. Heck i was going to do that anyway I need to sleep tonight.

My theory is that vets are not used to people who test at home and want to manage their cat's numbers with an eye toward remission. I think most beans they deal with want to shoot twice a day and not worry about it, so the plan is to generally have the cat run high. They are continually worrying about possible hypos because they don't think people will know how to handle them.

I know you were a little nervous about his numbers last night, but you managed it perfectly. He did not drop dangerously low, and those numbers are good for him. They make it less likely that he will bounce from blues and even greens the next time, and they are healing for his pancreas.

If he were mine, I would continue doing what you are doing and maybe only share the spreadsheet after weeks of lovely numbers with the idea: "Look how well we are doing!" It's hard to argue with success. I definitely would not withhold insulin. He is in perfectly safe numbers.

PMPS; 477 so I gave him his 3u. I thought about 1u and would have left it at that if he were lower but I know he is not going to go Hypo from here. I think you are right on the Vet. First the Tech was like good job catching that. Then I got asked about Karo syrup, when I said I'd use Honey or maple if necessary she seemed confused. Also I can't figure out why they said don't bother to test. How do we know if he did bounce if I didn't test?
